Rolex box timeline

Hello all. I'm trying to find a good resource that outlines the history and timeline of which box belongs with what time period. I have a couple of pieces that require a box and I'd like to get something that would be period correct and accurate for the date and model. I've done several searches and I seem to get some conflicting results. I'm sure there's a good resource out there that I'm just not finding. Anyone have a link they refer to?

As a part B to this, I'm also looking for something that would show me what booklets would come with the various models at different time periods. I have a could of keeper pieces and I'd like to get this stuff because, well, you know, OCD.

Thanks for reading!

I found this on the forum a year ago when I was sourcing the correct box for my 16700 pepsi.

Apparently sometimes the AD would use one of several boxes when selling watches so that is why a particular box may correct for several watches, and why a particular watch may be ok to have one of several boxes.

I hope this is a help to start your search with.

It would be cool to put together a member-populated database of that information

Boxes are made in several parts of the world, so say one box a Sub came in the UK,there could be a different number box for a sub in the USA.

I see no visual differences between US dealer boxes and non US dealer boxes. And I have been perusing the for sale Rolex watches section here on the forum for some time. Since Rolex is a very secretive company, do you have evidence that supports the fact that boxes are made in multiple locations throughout the world? Cheers.

Thanks for the replies guys, this all makes sense. The fact that the boxing was at the discretion of the AD does make for some variance. It seems it happens even now with different sized boxes. As suggested, different parts of the world just adds to that, easpecially with older references it seems.

roviw - thanks for posting that info, very interesting indeed. It would be very cool to get a larger database from data collected from the membership as natosub suggests.

Great insight so far, thanks very much.

A comprehensive 'show us your box' thread/pictorial might be of interest (to some).

I bought a bezel protector from ebay a few weeks ago for my Daytona, the seller had listed it as it was with his watch when new , I messaged him to find what model Daytona it was from, he confirmed the model and year of his watch , it was the same model as mine so I got it, just £12 including postage.

Maybe just do an online search for them and see if one comes up to suit your watch

The description on some of these might help you pin point some boxes
