You think this Dial is original? YG Day-date 18238
I am seriously considering purchasing a Rolex Day-date 36, 18238. But I am questioning if the dial originally came on the watch. I know there are countless dials for the YG Day-date 36mm. Any ideas if it is possible for a Black Tapestry Face dial with Roman numerals inner train tracks to be an original dial on a YG 18238. I have seen similar dials with the Roman numeral train tracks on the YG 18238 but they were Champagne color. The seller guarantees that the dial is Rolex original but has no idea if it originally came on the watch.
Also for the Rolex winding crown markings would it be a line underneath the crown or 2 dots under the crown for a YG 18238. I have seen a mix bag of both but it seems like the 2 dot markings are definitely on the later model 118238. Thanks guys for any advice. |

Circa 1990 DD 18238 With T Swiss Made T Tapestry dial, and underline crown. Question is should it have Romans on the tracks. My guess is Romans on the solid black dial but not the tapestry dial. But could be related to production date. Underline crown seems ok to me for that date, but again may be related to production date. So you need to know if tapestry dial with T Swiss Made T dial had Romans on the track, great question for the vintage guys.

Dial is good. Perhaps with relume applied to the dots.
Likely an X Serial #. Also came in WG around 2008-2009 on V Serial #. Looks to be in good shape. |

Yes I have seen the solid black dial with roman tracks in this reference those seem common and safe but I have never seen roman tracks on the black tapestryq. Maybe I should just play it safe with a solid black dial. I really like that retro vibe with the black tapestry dial, but not sure if it's a good idea to the roll the dice since I am no vintage expert.

Is it the shape of the dots that make it seem relumed? Does reluming the dial kill the resale value of the watch?
