Your first vintage rolex

Hey all. Newbie here, hailing from the great white north (Toronto). I'm loving these boards as a resource and also just for a good read. Seems like a great community.

I've been getting more and more engrossed into vintage rolexes since finding this forum. And I've been thinking about getting a 5513/5512 metres first, with a nice heavy patina and gilt dial. (Lookit me, I'm even using the terminology)

My question to you guys is: What was your first foray into the vintage watch world like? Did you spend a long time researching? Too little time? Any tips for someone looking for their first vintage?

Part of the reason why these forums are great is because there are so many great stories - what was the story of your first?
