Well if it did save his arm I'm glad, but purely from a selfish perspective it's too bad he wasn't wearing his seiko that day

Yeah, and it looks like the crystal is sort of flaking apart like mica or something rather then just shattering?

But actually a shattered sapphire crystal is one of the WORST accidents that can happen to a Rolex (or any other watch). Reason is that minute particles of the crystal can enter the movement via the date aparture and be dragged into the movement, and then we have the trouble! So if this ever happens to YOUR Rolex, immediately STOP the movement by pulling the crown out to its last position and be careful not to move the watch around to much. Take it to RSC immediately! Here is an article about it: Plexi versus sapphire crystal! CLICK!

And here's a quick (and very dirty) translation:
Sub accident! CLICK! Sorry for the quick google translation, but I am a bit busy tonight and haven't got the time to do a proper translation of the whole desk but I guess you can get the meaning all the same.

I just read SOME of the translation! DAMN, that is funny! I quote: " Terrible idea! Hast du dein Schätzchen sicher mit dem Fuß auffangen können, oder hast den Sturz nur etwas abgedämpft? Have your sweetie safe with your foot caught, or have to fall only slightly abgedämpft?" Sorry, maybe I should have translated the text myself!
