Icon7 Rolex Explorer II 216570 Bezel

I have a GMT 2C and a DeepSea Blue, and I am now falling for the Polar Explorer II 43mm 216570. I am thinking of getting one but have my reservation about the steel bezel which could be scratched easily and that would ruined its look. Can anyone who owns the Polar Explorer II 216570 share your experiences using this watch and how prone the bezel is to scratches from normal daily wear? Thanks heaps!

I've only had mine for about 6 months. It's been in rotation and worn, on average 12 days per month. It's also been with me for one month as my sole watch when traveling. I suppose it's relatively early days, but so far no damage. It seems to be wearing well and resisting. I hope I haven't cursed it by saying that!

Coming up on a year, well 11 months, and no issues. You do realize that steel is very much harder than the old aluminum inserts. But come to think on it, other than fading I didn't have an issue there either.

Been wearing mine everyday for a month since I bought it. No scratches on the bezel yet but it is a watch that I wear so scratches will happen obviously.

The clasp has scratches but it is a watch and not a Faberge egg so I don't care. I bought it to wear/use it.

Once the watch is sent in for its fist service in 10 years, it will come back looking almost like new anyway so you can just start over.

Bought mine in 2012. It accumulated a couple of minor scratches. 2 years ago had the RSC give it a light polish. Since then, no new scratches.

I had a polar 16570 several years ago that I wore daily. The ease with which it picked up marks and scratches bothered me (the finely brushed bezel shows everything). Flipped it toward a 116610LV and have never looked back.

So, I had a good long hard look at my bezel.
After almost a year of surfing, clambering through jungle, living in a house comprised of almost all concrete and exposed steel surfaces, wearing it to the gym and to bed and in the shower, and not laying it gently down face up, ( not joking about any of that BTW), I have a swirly clasp with some shiny hotspots, (mostly from the bloody laptop), some hairlines on the lugs at 6 and on the non crown case side.
On the bezel, if I hold it at a bunch of different angle to catch the light theres a few small lines that stand out. But I have to look reallllly hard. The radial brushing on the bezel does a great jog of camouflaging small scratches and hairlines. it is also made of steel, not lard, so is fairly hard.
You might somehow put a massive gouge in it, but you might just as easily drop any watch, or bang it into something that shatters the crystal or dents a lug. Shit certainly happens, but the bezel is not the delicately helpless scratch magnet some non Exp II owners would have you believe. Then again, not knowing your tolerance for such marks, you might take one look at my watch and freak out.
If the worst happens, I believe the bezel is a relatively inexpensive part to replacement

I have been wearing it for little bit over a year now. Only small twirls, little scratches. I think it only adds character to this perfect watch. I always take Explorer II when i go to long journeys with motorcycle, or Africa or rural parts of Russia for example. It has experienced a lot with me during a year. It has been with me in +42 celcius degrees and minus 48 celcius degrees. Only good things to say about this watch. At the moment i have bone injuries, so i cannot Explore that much now, so i trust mostly my Day-Date and Sky-Dweller during this calm period.

9/10 points to Explorer II. It would be 10/10 if bezel would look a bit different, like 70’s for example.

You're overthinking it. It's a great watch...best bang for the buck going.

And, if it does scratch, it looks right at home.

I had a 216570 for a time but decided it was too big for me and flipped it. Otherwise, it was a great watch and served me well. Within the first month I got a fairly large scratch on the bezel and it really bothered me. It's not an easy fix however so just had to live with it.

when you say 2 big do you mean the 42mm case size or overall weight of the watch? tks.

Rolex Explorer II 216570 Bezel

I’ve had mine for a year now. Have worn it in some rough environments. Still looks great! I really have to stare at it closely to see the scratches the bezel has picked up. Buy it and don’t worry. This is a tool watch.

Nice thing is this bezel is way cheaper than ceramic to replace if it gets too mangled I believe. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

EDIT: I didn’t even realize I had that scratch near the 8 on the bezel until I really zoomed in on the pic. With the naked eye I barely see it 20/15 corrected vision.

It will pick up scratches, it is inevitable. If you want the toughest you have to go ceramic. I'd bet at some point the Explorer II will go that way also.

Rolex Explorer II 216570 Bezel

I think mine still looks great after over 2 years. I still love it. This pic from about 2.5 weeks ago.

Case size. IMO it was just a bit much for my 6.5" wrist. Have to say I loved the overall weight and feel.

It’s a brushed steel though, so I think you’ll enjoy it. I actually think some wear on the bezel would look nice.

Mine has been on my wrist daily for the last 9 months including 6 months in Afghanistan and I can't find a single mark on the bezel.

A new bezel costs less than a polishing service from a lot of other brands...

Don't hesitate, go for the EX2, is a great watch!!!

I wore mine for 5 years and in that time got minimal scratches. It's the perfect tool watch to just wear and not worry about, and if you do get a scratch you can hardly tell. It's much harder to be as relaxed with my BLNR that I wear now. Anyway, 216570, buy, wear, enjoy, don't worry! Good luck.

I absolutely love my polar 216570...it has quickly become my daily-wearer and dethroned the GMT IIc as my go-to travel watch.
