vintage red sub appraisal
i have to increase the insurance on my red sub, but my AD only estimates its worth at the price of a new sub. where can i get a more accurate estimate of this watch's worth?

Here on TRF, for example.
A 1680 Red with papers and box, in good condition would be worth about US $ 10,000+

Probably not! But at least you have some price to go by now.
Maybe you should ask another AD than the one you asked, since setting the value of a Red Sub at the price of a current Sub is just ridiculous. I know that some AD's do appraisals. I am sure someone will chip in and recommend you some places to go to.

check out some of the Antiquorum or Christie auctions - surely there is a redline that has the correct estimate for your insurance guy

I think that you need to get an valuation from a reputable vintage dealer/auctioneer, that will be acceptable to your insurance company, not an AD.
You wouldn't get a valuation on a vintage Porsche from a 'new' Porsche dealer would you? This is a toughy, but I'm sure there are 'experts' out there who insurance companies accept. How are Picasso's valued? Good luck and keep us posted. John. |

Looks like a nice dial! Appears to be a closed 6 variety...73/74ish?
