Credit card sales

Anyone have their AD refuse a credit card or act p***y about it? I got in the habit of paying by check to get the discounts and never paid MSRP. I always pay my balance anyway but it would be nice to get the rewards from the card company.

No. But I know Amex charges something like 4% back to the retailer. That's why a lot of stores don't take AMEX. So, it's even less margin for the AD after your discount.

It's really good that you get the discount even though you pay with a credit.

My AD always checks my credit card

But thankfully it is nothing personal. According to Danish credit card rules - using the Danish credit card "Dankort" - any purchase over DKR. 10,000 (about 2,000 US $) must be checked by the credit card issuer before being completed.

"Dankort" is considered as being equivalent to CASH, so no extra credit card fee is added!

My AD (which shall remain nameless to avoid upsetting the CC companies) will only discount when using Visa and not Amex. My store only accepts Amex and I am paying 2.x%.

My AD offered a discount if I paid in full, so I brought my check book when I purchased the watch. He asked me if I had a credit card and allowed me to use it???

I receive a 1% rebate on the card so I got a better deal than I originally thought...

Amex is not to popular in the UK, but no issue with Visa/Mastercard.

Couple of points--
1) I bought a watch in a foreign country using local currency and my AMEX. Upon currency conversion I got a very favorable rate via AMEX. The watch was even cheaper.
2- An AD would likely prefer you use a credit card instead of a personal check. Much more accountability using a CC than a check.

If you have a relationship with the AD, I think it would be prudent to make a point of using cash or cheque to pay rather than a Card. WHile you are chatting, make a point to tell the sales person you know the store takes a hit on the CC usage & you would rather have the $$ stay in the owners hands than the big CC companies.
Now this should pay dividends down the road for you with future purchases.
If you get back 1%, your talking less than $100 for a $10,000 watch in points, but the AD might be saving $400.
If you buy Pannies, that quite often translates into a free stap or some other swag too.

From what I understand, the vendor agreement does not allow different prices for cash vs. credit. Not sure about that because I do recall gas stations charging different prices for cash and credit. I do know it is a violation of the vendor agreement to refuse a credit card purchase if it is too small. ie no credit card purchase of less than x dollars.
