New to Rolex--Important Question about hands

Hi everyone!!! I am new to the board and new to owning a Rolex--I recently purchased a ROlex Oyster Perpetual Datejust. I love it and the look of it. However, when I have to set or re-set the time the hour and minute hands do not move smoothly, it is like they are stunted or when I stop winding, the hand bounces back a minute or two in position. I bought it from a certified dealer in South Africa (Capetown) and just want to know if this is normally how the hour/minute hands move when setting the time or should I have it checked out?

Welcome to TRF!

When you are setting the time and push in the crown, do you do it SLOWLY or with a good quick push?

Sometimes if you do it slowly, the "clicks" (winding settings) of the crown are not noticed and when you try to screw in the crown, you actually turn the hands.

Also, there can be some "play" in the hands.

Read more in the FAQ's here in the General Rolex Forums.

When the stem is pulled out for setting; the hands are "dis-engaged" from the gear train.

They are freewheeling and there is a bit of slack to be taken up when the stem is re set..

If you hold the stem and watch the hands so the slack is "taken up", then the stem can be re-inserted quite precisely..
