1964 Mickey Mouse Datejust
Hi everyone.
I Have just bought a 1964 Rolex Datejust with Mickey Mouse? on the Dial, it has a 1570 movement which is signed, there are rolex stamps on the inside of the case, on the crown, the dial and the movement. The face only has the Rolex Crown at the 12 position and nothing else. I can't find any information on this anywhere and was hoping that the shared knowledge on this forum could help me out. Thanks

Quite interesting!
I think Gerald Genta - among other designs - was famous for his "Mickey Mouse" watch, but I doubt if there ever came such a watch from the Rolex manufactory. Gerald Genta's version also has the hands/arms of Mickey Mouse acting as the hands of the watch/movement whereas the version shown here has standard hands and a pic of Mickey Mouse printed on the dial underneath. I'd say that the Mickey Mouse is a later adition.

Hi, i called up a few people, Armour Winston in the Burlington arcade in London's bond street, also Vintage Rolex in the same arcade, Rolex Boutique at Harrods, Bexley rolex lost and stolen and Rolex Head Office 19 St. James Square. Apparently it was issued to Disney Employees in the 60's to commemorate something or another, Gentleman at Armour Winston said that it had major value. Going to london as soon as possible to get it checked out. Has anyone else come across one of these before?

as bo says, gerald genta is famous for his "Fantasy" watches with the mickey mouse theme which has a jumping hour movement.. Gerald Genta did also design a watch for Rolex, but it was a Cellini model and not a datejust.. in my opinion the mickey mouse cartoon on the dial doesnt seem so original to me.. but like u said u asked several AD's and u got ur answer.. good luck though |
