EXPII or DJII (white)

I’m looking to buy a one and only Rolex. I’m not the type to switch out watches or have a rotation. I wear one watch and wear it 24/7. It never comes off no matter the activity. Like the title says im looking at the Polar 216570 or the white dial 116300. Date is the most important which they both have, GMT function is nice but not a deal breaker. I have a 7” wrist. In the past I have had a black expii, GMTii, and currently a SD4k. But none of them have been THE watch for me and have all ended up being flipped. The SD4k will also be flipped for this next watch that I hope to keep “forever”. Any insight would be great. Thanks

DJII with smooth bezel is a great watch, imho. Well up to any task you might throw at it. I think it is much more traditional looking than the ExpII if that means anything in your quest. Since you've already owned an ExpII and it didn't stick, was it just the dial color that made you tire of it?

Get the Explorer II. The DJII is a great watch, but for daily wear and PCLs, the wear will show more on the polished parts. Plus, you sound like me. If you were ever to tire of the Explorer, the resale is generally higher than a DJ with all the options/combos that model has. But, either way, it'll be a good choice

As for me, I'd have a hard time letting the SD4K go. That would be my daily without hesitation.

EXPII or DJII (white)

Datejust is my recommendation. This is the ultimate classic watch. Works well in any situation - shorts & t-shirt, casual, semi formal you name it. Never looks out of place which I think plays significantly to your goal of 24/7 capable. It’s my only Rolex too. I only take it off for manual labor.

As it so happens the polar Exp II is at the top of my list if/when I get another...

Looks like you already had expii. I'd go for dj. It's classic and it is pretty robust for a 24x7 wearing. Fits casual and dressy situations.
My opinion is very subjective as I was never a fan of expii, but so is everyone else's. I never even considered dj until I tried my wife's. Big fan now although I'm more into sport models. There is just something about those dj's...

I would go for the Exp II. I have one and I always end up drifting back to it. It’s very comfortable and the gmt/date feature is great. DJ I a beautiful watch but just doesn’t do it for me.

Folks that own an Explorer II will say Explorer II.

Those who own a DJ II will say DJ II.

My vote is for the DJ II.

Sounds like you’ve flipped a lot of really nice watches. I would go and try the both on, and buy the one you love. If you don’t love either, then wait until you find one that you do love

I have owned a DJII and still have a black dialed Expy II 42. I love my Explorer II and find it to be the perfect daily watch for me.

Can I make a suggestion Sir ? Do you remember the Explorer II Ivory dial from the mid-80s ?

Now, capture the allure of that magical dial, make a tasteful twist in the tale and get the irresistible Ivory TT DJ2

Thanks for the great reply’s. Some good things to think about. That ivory DJII is killer! Don’t think I could pull it off as a daily though. I’ve tried on the polar but my local AD didn’t have the DJII only the DJ41. I liked it enough to know a DJ should be in the running, but prefer the larger hour markers and case dimensions of the DJII.

Given your past, i doubt this will be a ‘forever’ watch for you. As such, since you have had the Exp before, why not go woth DJ2 for a few years ?

The black Bezel Rolex sport watches are classics for sure, I own one myself, but they all look very similar in many ways and are also the most repeated design type by many manufacturers.
My Rolex collection has three DJ2’s amongst its ranks, including the TT Ivory Dial which is simply stunning and timeless.
You won’t regret buying it and it’s as much of a daily wear watch as any sub, GMT or SD. In fact, you’ll have a hard time trying NOT to wear it once it’s in your wrist.

This picture perplexes me. A DJ2 with a jubilee?

42mm explorer 2 the best bang for your buck IMHO.

If you are office person and take it off during physical activities, i would say DJII as it goes with suit better than Explorer II. If you dont visit office that much nor wear a suit, i would say Explorer II as you can really wear it ALL the time and everywhere. It has nice shine too and is ok with suit as well, but not as good as DJII.

I’m in the office quite a bit but have a pretty active job. I’m not sure why I’m having such a hard time making up my mind. I think I’m just tired of flipping and want to ensure I get a Watch I will be happy with long-term.

Both options will quarantee happiness for a long time I think your problem is you can’t go wrong with either one of these two. Hard to decide, i have been between these two as well. The GMT time of ExpII is helpful to me and it works as a compass too. And white dial is super easy to read

Don’t rule out the fluted Bezel white baton dial DJ2 either. I chose that over the polar Explorer 42mm for the white dial in my collection.

The DJ would be my choice. I think it’s a more all round versatile watch and if the PCL’s are an issue they can always be brushed out.

Good Golly Miss Molly! You're right Mike ! Honestly, I was also wondering myself since DJ2 always comes on the oyster. It's either a Replica or actually a DJ 41 fitted with the Cal 3235 . To add to the confusion if you browse Chrono24 & ebay , there are scores of Sellers who 'misleadingly' labelled the DJ 41 as either the new DJ II or DJ 2 41 on the Jubilee

Why not the DJ41 with a Jubilee bracelet? The Jubilee is very comfortable and the DJ41 has the new movement.

Datejust 41. White face, smooth bezel on an oyster bracelet.

Set for life my friend.
