What a snoozer of a year.

I agree this is a bit of a letdown this year. The GMT is nice if you like thew Jubilee bracelet but the rest is just okay.

With waiting’s lists on current sports models, their target could have been an aging demographic. In which case, the jubilee, TT’s, and bedazzled cases are a success !

Is this an admission by Rolex that they have given up on younger buyers ?

Interesting point....I think a lot of people will have been feeling the same now over the last few years. Expectation is possibly too high though probably decreasing over time, and delivery then disappoints. Not great frankly in terms of the way ahead!

Basel 2018 - Disappointing

I feel they are getting a bit lazy. This year was super underwhelming and lacked really anything amazing imo. The pepsi ss is nice, but not revolutionary. I think the watch industry should move towards giving us something we didn’t know we want, rather than releasing a single, predictable model they know will have success. So far they have just made a gold model steel or added ceramic to an old model. What happened to the days where a iconic and uncertain watch was released? The Royal oak? Nautilus? Deepsea?
I just think basel should at least occasionally release a completely new model (not simply changing the color or movement) or make some radical change to existing models.

What do you guys think? Has the watch industry gotten lazy? Should they be gunning to make the next iconic model? Or continue making the changes they have been?

Checkout the sky dweller, very interesting and pushed Rolex forward from a movement perspective. These pieces takes years of r&d to develop, so you can't get a new revolutionary model every year.

I thought last year was a bigger letdown personally!

Several of the releases intrigue me this year the new Pepsi, Everose black/brown, and white dial OP.

Nothing like 2016 and the Daytona C. I don't believe I'm putting my name on any list. The TT GMT will be 10K in a few years on the pre-owned market so I might jump on one then.

I am not underwhelmed, there were some pretty cool releases but it was all about adding color options this year. At least there are some signs that Rolex is actually listening to their customers by giving us the SS Pepsi.

I know Rolex prefers not to reinvent the wheel, but how about a new sports model?

Not sure why it was disappointing. I think it's textbook Rolex playbook: small incremental changes, focusing on improving what already exist. They have always have that baby-steps approach. Not sure why this year is such a surprise? Meanwhile, I am ordering that GMT Pepsi. Cheers.

I think the brown and black ceramic is an absolute hit. If they release that in stainless, im a buyer.

They don't seem to have fixed the colour issue on the Pepsi. That's disappointing in a way.

Look at it this way,....You can’t hardly buy a current SS Profesional model now without a long wait. Not being impressed saved you a lot of money and a 2 year waiting list. You can focus and love what you currently own.

This. And the jubilee ruins it for me. Strangely blingy and not particularly sporty. Very happy to stick with my LN until Rolex sticks the new movement in (on an oyster bracelet).

True. If there would be all available and ready, Rolex would lose value like cars do, ending up being nothing.

Omega and Breitling etc are just better for some buyers. You can have everything right away.

I agree. Was super excited for a Coke or Pepsi in steel, then they saddle it with the ugly jubilee bracelet. OP39 in white is nice though.

Tudor hit it out of the park? By adding more Black Bays, as completely expected? They basically only make Black Bay models now. Ridiculous. I’m glad I have watches I love from Rolex and Tudor already, because I’m disappointed in their current offerings. I’m grateful for my Blue Rose, Ranger, blue Monte Carlo reissue, and 114060. I’ve yet to see anything push me off the path of my next target, a white 16570, except maybe the white OP39.

Tudor is even more disappointing than Rolex this year! Hey, five more Black Bays and a dressy model no one cares about! They have been phoning it in since they changed the Black Bay to the in-house movement.

It’s not listed with the new releases. None of the OP models are.

THIS

Yes, they are getting lazy. Or maybe the better way to put it is playing it safe. Too safe. Re-hashing the same ideas over and over and over again.

Wow, a pepsi GMT? Didn't they first do that like 60 years ago? A jubilee bracelet? Didn't they first do that like 70 years ago?!

I don't understand how the industry believes they're going to survive the next generation.

I don't know, maybe I am crazy but it feels like brands like Rolex are actually starting to listen to feedback and make appropriate moves based on that consumer feedback. Wider lugs on the DSSD, SS Pepsi. They cant make ALL things for ALL folks but they do seem to be trying to be on par with what the market is asking for.

Excited to see the new releases in person.

I'll agree it wasn't knock your socks off like when the Daytona became ceramic but I certainly think the GMT releases have their merits.
