Patek Aquanut 5065a for opinions
Dear all,
I have been looking for a 5065a high and low and found a decent offer with watch only. However I do not know the seller well who is not as established yet. However before I get it authenticated, can I share some photos of it and seek you guys opinion on this watch? Thanks so much. This will hopefully be my 1st PP :) |

I am no expert but it does look pretty good.

Unless the price is too good to be true, I would not buy a PP that is not complete with box or papers. Also from a seller with out a reputation would slow me down. If the watch was offered by one of our well respected TS here on TRF I would not have an issue. I would pass and find a complete example from a Trusted Seller.

If you have an AD close-by you can take it to him to check it out.

Not very easy to see on the pictures, but the edges of the octagon don’t seem very clear. They might have been polished away. And that could be something that starts annoying you after a while. It is a key feature of the watch.

Replaced dial and hands
Case doesn't look crisp.

What is a good price?
Extracts are inexpensive and easy to get. Don't let no no box and papers deter you from a good deal...no one is going to ask to see the box and papers while admiring your watch;) If you are getting it significantly below market (market = 25k to 35k) go for it and get it serviced and polished by PP (~1500 USD). Again PP service only...don't go anywhere else... Btw a famous YouTube personality just traded 3 steel Rolex for 1 5296 that needed a service and some case work. In the end I think his trade will turn out in his favor after PP works their magic on it. Buy smart and seek out good deal.:) |

I've had my 5065 serviced twice. First time was by PP, it took months, cost about $1,000, came back with a damaged strap, and lasted about 3 years, at which point it required service again. Next time I took it to the watchmaker at Morgan & Co (Westwood Village, in LA; sadly no longer an AD) who finished it in a shorter time period, for a few hundred less, and it's been working perfectly for about eight years. I wouldn't go to just any watchmaker or dealer, but I do think there are some out there who are well qualified, no? |

The price is about 21k USD for sharing. It's good value but the non-reputation and the worn condition makes me slow down and ponder...

I bought this one for a similar price, extract only, at a Patek AD about 6 months ago. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I would pass it on, considering the condition and no box/papers.

That price is not that good...
It probably needs a service....again go PP. 1500 USD minimum restore. A dealer would give this guy 30% off market because they are stingy and nasty when it comes to trades. So 25-1.5-7=17.5k. So a good deal to you would be more like 18k |

21k is a bit high imo. 18-19k may not be a bad buy. As some have mentioned it will take Patek months to service this which will run an additional $1,500. These models seem to hot right now, and I can see why!!

Buy the seller. (Sure your sick of that tho).
Does the seller sell other watches as well? I would get it authenticated before, and realize there are these under 21k available |

I would keep searching, as that doesn’t look to be the best example for that price.
Maybe save up a little more and get yourself a 5167, it looks better in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hi guys,
Thanks all for your inputs. It is much appreciated I have let go of the deal and will continue to hunt for a 5065 in a better condition with a reputable seller. Thanks! |

Should have bought this one when I saw it for 14k GBP year and a half ago. Cool watch (although it makes me think of George Soros) in good size.

Is there a reason it has to be a used Patek? For that kind of money just get a Ceramic Panda Daytona or a used solid gold preceramic Rolex?

Speaking of, it sounds as though he could also get a 5066 for significantly less, which is the same size as the 3800 he'd discussed in other threads. |

Someone posted a NOS example here and could have been bought sub 20k IIRC.

Looks about right, had one for the wife to wear (to match my old 5167). Think we paid about $12k for hers and $17k for mine. It is a bit small, and the 'hand grenade' dial of the ladies model is more textured than the mens 5167 of course.

It was more than a year ago maybe longer and I may be referring to the smaller case size version. I don’t recall the specifics. Sorry.

Thanks guys.
I am aiming for the 5065 or the 5167 which is a longer term target. Ultimately I prefer a PP or if it's really impossible to source either at acceptable prices, I will go for brand new AP 15500 black or grey. Although brand wise, AP lose out to PP, the whole royal oak is very well build and I can still buy from the AD with deposit. |
