Yes the models with Valjoux 7750 based movements (1088/1090/1104) are discontinued couple of years back. Resellers might still have them in new condition, depending on the region.

I have never bought a watch that was not new, or not from an AD.
Given the two I now want most are the PAM 1090 and the Rolex Batman (oyster), it appears buying not-new and/or from a non-AD may be my only options. Is there a thread the provides guidelines/vocabulary on how to do this? I don't want to buy a used watch, I want to buy one that is unused, never worn, with some recognition from the OEM that it is a valid watch. Any suggestions?

My research on the Valjoux 7750 tell me it is a reliable but noisy movement, perhaps not very modern. Is it possible the 1090 will be reintroduced with a more up-to-date movement?

The 7750 is a robust, reliable and classic movement that’s easy/cheap to service. Panerai had to move on because they were forced to by Swatch no longer supplying it to most 3rd party companies.
Most criticism of the movement centers on the famous/infamous “wobble”. Sometimes one feels it on the wrist and hears it if it is close to one’s ear. Up to you whether it is a problem or a characteristic. |
