How many threads do we have to read from noobs about:
1. How long will it take to get X watch?
2. Rolex makes a million watches a year. Is my datejust rare?
3. Should I send my AD a gift for taking my money?
4. Is my datejust a good investment?
5. Does my diamond encrusted “Rollie” have enough wrist presence?

If only these kind of repetitive threads could go to the spam folder. It’s a shame the board has gotten to this.

It’s obviously not. An entire thread around that is not necessary.

Haha. Forgot about those… that should’ve been on the list. At least they became a running joke.

To me it’s how the questions are asked; the topics, I’ve given up on and people don’t read rules or proper forum categories anyway so I’d skip more selections for now and let our Mods do their thing regarding topics.

Not every member of TRF spends the same amount of time reading up on watches and watch trends. Some people save for years to get a piece and they come with questions. I do agree that the things get repetitive but to blame it on the platform is a bit of a stretch and unreasonable. It's literally the whole point of a forum.

The repetition of themes, questions and issues is an unavoidable aspect of online forums.

Or is this longing for the supposed old days an expression of unhappiness that the ‘undeserving’ have now joined the club?

No, not that at all. As someone else mentioned rather astutely, my interest is in the horology, not really the hype. I understand that other people may have different interests. There’s no such thing as the undeserving. There’s just an awful lot of repetitive threads by rolex speculators.

I challenge you to show me where I created one of the enumerated threads.

I do much more reading on here than I do posting. And I start very few threads.

Hell I'll go to another forum if I can talk about whatever interests me in peace. Today I spent more time in the Open Discussion forum chatting about grey dealers, Kevin O Leary and the Dallas Cowboys, and it was great!
Exactly. This is supposed to be fun.

I agree with this completely. Although I realize now that my original post was technically on the wrong board.

Also, I thought valuation threads were discouraged based upon the sticky. Aren’t questions about investment potential and the like posts about speculative future valuations?

Ha. I get your point. I enjoy the incomings(misnomer) bc I enjoy the pics and I am happy that ppl are excited about the watches.

I think the German 'urhforum' has a great forum rule :

2.5 Anfragen zur Wertermittlung von Uhren (oder Zubehör) und Preisdiskussionen sind unerwünscht. Threads/Beiträge mit Verfügbarkeitsdiskussionen, Wertanfragen und Preisdiskussionen werden geschlossen oder gelöscht.

Translation :

Inquiries about the valuation of watches (or accessories) and price discussions are undesirable. Threads/posts discussing availability, value requests, and price discussions will be closed or deleted.

I like the rule, but doubt it would work here.

Forums die this way.

There's just bound to be some repetition and there's always going to be something someone doesn't care for more than others.
