Oh, I bet VogelPhoneix did wait his turn. First his wife looked at it, and unfortunately it sounds like he didn't get his turn. Was so close, 1 spot away, and bam, nothing.

That’s amazing. It’s nice to hear stories like this. I worked for jewelers in advertising over my 30 year career and rarely if ever even saw a Daytona come through. I was offered one in 2006 but did not have the funds that day. Wish I could have a do over on that one.

Yea its a bit odd for me (middle class) walking around wearing a 50K watch and I don't even own a car or house. I paid retail but won't sell it as its my fav watch looks wise (wish it were a 42) and I feel the price will keep going up. I feel safe with hodinkee insurance as I can adjust the price on the fly. unfortunatly I think they have a cap for a single watch were you have to get appraisals. If I recall its 100K or more for any one watch? I don't think it will hit that for awhile if at all. With the said I don't wear the watch everywhere like I used to.

I think after 10 pages plus the point has been made ad nauseam

To all the people that own a White dial 500 congrats. You've made it. You have the most special, unique, one of a kind Rolex. What more can be said.

Meanwhile me and my lowly Black dial 500 will be just fine.

I know you are being facetious but your "lowly black dial 500" quietly goes up with the white 500. Just a little brother tagging along...sort of like the 116520 white dial USED to be.

Just had a random thought about the Daytona pricing, why it is going crazy... could be another factor we are not thinking about, which is that the ladies are also picking up this model. Double the audience, double the demand as I do not see too many women wearing Subs/GMTs etc. However plenty will wear a Daytona.

ADs may also be getting even more selective with who they sell these to.

It does make you wonder what the ceiling is for these.

Don't know, don't care! LOL!

If I can't get one at MSRP I am not interested, rather go PM (which I did)

I would rather have the SS over the PM, personally...I think there are MANY celebs and influencer with extensive recourses that agree by way of their purchase decision TBH

Both stainless and PM Daytonas are north of my price range, but it's been kind of wild to watch how much these have risen over the past year and how demand just seems to grow, and grow, and grow (same with the Turquoise OP).

I like the idea of PM but i might have to agree. Just from a weight perspective, i don’t know that i would love PM. looking forward to giving it a go at some point, but thinking SS is more my jam.

$50k for a Daytona, madness, utter madness.
People may say madness.

However the same said madness at 20k and 30k and 40k…..they’ll say madness right up to them reaching 100k in the coming years.

It genuinely could happen.

Every time there is a price jump it feels unsustainable. One day this may be correct, but for now, the rise in price is relentless.

Not forgetting its little brother the "Godzilla" - this will trend upwards as well, in tandem with the rise of panda

I couldn't agree more, I just don't see how this will resolve itself anytime soon

Considering the blue dial SkyD is just as rare as a SS Daytona, if not rarer, it’s odd the SkyD blue hasn’t seen much of a prices increase on grey market over the last month.

SkyD is the new kid on the block and its larger size can be a deal breaker for many. Apples vs Oranges.

What watch is “Godzilla”?

Btw, I have a name for the Air King, if that’s still unnamed.

Limited audience. It’s too big. 40mm is perfect for everyone, whether they realize it or not.

These prices take the fun out of the hobby. As crazy and stupid as 100k for a 15k watch sounds I still don't think I could or would sell mine. I like having the watch for what it is, valuable or not. If you are like me and just enjoy having a watch that you like, is there a certain price that you would sell for or do you ignore these secondary values all together and just enjoy?
