The first 10 pounds is always easy for me to lose, mainly because its all fat. I've had a steady weight now for approx 3 weeks, the next 10 is usually very hard. My ideal weight would be 185 pounds (six pak), right now Im 195 (two pak) and I started @ 205 (no pak). Im 5' 10".

I usually eat pretty good, its just that I eat too much... Portion control will help me get to my ideal weight.

Nothing but running in my exercise regime, usually 5 times a week, around 21 miles total weekly.

So your taking body fat calipers? I've never heard of that...did you get from your Doctor? Over the counter?

Ashley, congrats. You look great. Miss Jody and I need to knock off a couple of pounds each. We just got a house in Hamilton, MI and it will keep us busy. It sits on about 1.4 acres so mowing, etc will keep me busy. That along with chasing the kids around. Hope you are well.

Ashley! You have made an amazing change. That is one of the most inspiring changes of all. 80lbs is simply unbelievable. I know you feel great and you look beautiful. Congratulations on hanging in there with that kind of commitment!

Steady as it goes. I've got a friend who's at that two month mark and feels stalled out. The weight slid off fast at first and then just slowed. But that's how it goes and as you pointed out, it's that next 10 that's hard. You're almost there, hang tough...the six pack's calling you.

It's just a simple plastic caliper for squeezing that pinch of fat. Someone at my gym gave me an extra one they had and it's become quite handy...although as Matt pointed out earlier, hardly accurate. It's a good guide, tho.

Last July 4th I realized that although I had no issues wearing swimwear, I was fat.

I didn't like how I felt, or the number on the scale. So I decided to do something about it.

I always went to the gym but my eating habits were absolute crap. I joined Weight Watchers Online (no meetings just online tools) and went from 257 lbs to 197 lbs. (I'm 6'3" btw). I've been done "losing" and have been maintaining for the past 3 months.

The key is changing how you live, not just dieting. I know how to make/choose healthy food now and frankly the whole maintaining thing has not been as difficult as I thought it was going to be. I just can't eat as much as I used to!

For those who are doing crash diets with ultra low calories I implore you to seek healthier options, they don't work in the long run. Do something that basically remaps how and what you eat and lose the weight slowly over many months to keep it off for good. Diet AND exercise is key!

So this year at my friends July 4th party I can't wait to be in my bathing suit!

Sincere congratulations, Chris. To follow through with a 50 lb. loss is remarkable and inspiring to me. Do you have any pictures?

Yes but its a few months old. I'm slightly slimmer now as it seems my body is reacting to the weight saying off by shrinking more. I'm not complaining! 35 inch waist for the first time since high school!

Btw for you Disney lovers, the first one was taken in the Contemporary. I love that hotel!

My daughter went through a 12 week program with me and really made progress. She was already in good shape, but saw lower fat levels (she's about as low a bodyfat composition as I want her to go) and increased strength, muscle definition and endurance levels.

We were out of town together and worked out in the morning at 7:00 and then had a great omelet at the breakfast bar. It certainly is more fun having someone to work out with and helps with the motivation.

I posted this picture on another thread, but it is more appropriate here. So this is my way of showing off her progress. This was from a recent wedding we went to and during the rehearsal dinner she shot me this "double bi" from across the room.

I selected 12 weeks as a guide because most "turn yourself around" programs seem to follow a 12 week run. I say 12 weeks, but it never really ends, and I think people tend to think like they do about dieting, which rarely works because soon it's over after you go back to eating normally.

Nutritionally, I pulled from a lot of sources and tried to simplify it for my needs. The gym training, I designed for myself because I know my body and how to get around sticking points. But for cardio work, I used an established program called, Body for Life which used a 3 day a week, ramping intensity schedule. It works great and it is over and done with in 20 minutes. My kind of workout.

http://bodyforlife.com/

But after looking extensively through the body for life website and information, I think it is the best I've ever seen for turning around your life. People that have gone through it rave about it and what it has done to ALL areas of their life. Not just physically. It is very specific and is good for someone who gets overwhelmed trying to figure out how to get a handle on this.

I was so embarrassed last year that I didn't wear a bathing suit. Judging from the reaction of onlookers they would have preferred me wearing one.

I've been out of town 2 days and didn't exercise

Going to try 2 miles tonight (even if it's 96 degrees out)...

I hate it too. But when I'm done I feel incredible

It's always tough getting going, but once I do I feel like I can go and go.

So I come home from my run, ready to do a few crunches, and I have a cat who is determined to sit on my stomach.

Everyone needs a training cat to provide that needed resistance.

Just got back from 8 days in San Antonio. So, in fact I happen to have a swimsuit photo taken at the hotel pool, but you have to look at the background! That's as close to a camera as I want to get in my swimmin' suit. The munchkin is Violet, who turned 2 today.

Before having kids I used to use dumbbells for toning my arms, but nothing got results like 9 year of kid hauling, grocery lifting and laundry carrying.
