Report the loss to Rolex in your home country. They will add the serial number to their database of stolen watches and if it ever comes through their repair centers, they will confiscate the watch and return it to you.

My fiancée got an upgrade to business. We are traveling to get married in HK (today).

Wearing my Eplorer II, the SD4, a gold chain, a Mont Blanc 2009 Unicef edition and our wedding rings in one locked pocket of my back pack, in the overhead compartment.

After landing I want to get a pen to fill the immigration papers, open the pad lock then no more pen, no more watch, but the Rolex green pouch still there, open the box of our wedding rings: all gone.

Could not beleive it at 1st sight, especially as pad lock was still closed.

Police and Emirates representative in HK told us it is happening on regular basis, few article on the web also mentionning the high frequency of mid flight thieves from middle east to HK.
Yes I did faall asleep during the (2nd) flight and yes went to CR also.

Cannot say where it has happen, from Nigeria to Dubai or from Dubai to HK as the pad lock was closed by me just after boarding check in Abuja (and eery thing was there at that point).

More than 25 years of extensive traveling in all shittier and best place of the planet, never lost a penny...

Looking now for a SD4 to replace the lost one...

Wedding rings were specialy made in Dubai in March this year, my jeweller is redoing them an in the mean time just bought temporay rings in HK...

Checked in HK for SD4, as usual in HK, rare watches are advertised (Chrono24) but it is just a trick from local grey market shops to bring customer in and sell them anything esle but the desired watch...

Watch out wour overhead stowed hand luggage.

Beware of HK grey dealers...

Wow, that is crazy.

These thieves just choose bags from random people that fall asleep with a hope that something valuable is inside.

Seems like a lot risk for not a guaranteed “score.”

Either way, sorry to hear this.

Common padlock supplied with luggage? If so, lots of those keys "floating around."

So sad. Sorry to hear this! I hope you recover it when it eventually goes in for a service. It makes me so angry. I’ve been scammed before and it stinks. And now I’m a skeptical idtiot lots a time but I’d rather play it safe then risk being scammed a 3rd time.

Probably the old pen in the zip trick. then once they have got what they want move the zip back so it hides the hole.

That takes some balls. What if OP realized before the plane landed? Wonder how the airline would handle a situation like that. Strip searches? Make passengers go through metal detectors? Call the cops? There was a lot of value in the stolen items, not to mention sentimental value. Just when you think you can relax......

I reckon nobody would be able to leave plane and police would enter the plane.

Glad you shared your experience. This is very helpful for others to know about. Sorry that you had to be the one to pay such a price for the lesson.

I recently found an old combo luggage lock that I've never made use of. I thought about using it on my next trip, for when I leave my suitcase (of mostly clothing and toiletries) with hotel clerks or in the room alone. Now I'm thinking that the lack of a lock may be better since it will avoid drawing attention. I never keep anything of significant value in a bag that's not on my person, so guarding some small souvenirs and such with a lock may be inviting more trouble than actual protection it offers.

Congrats on your marriage; that's pretty awful that the theft happened when it did. I hope you can make the best of things!

I find this so interesting. 6 years ago i was on a flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta with my girlfriend on an Emirates flight when one of the groundcrew pulled us aside and said "take good care of your belongings, security has seen something suspicious" . I still have no idea what they saw, but I'm still grateful.

Unfortunate circumstances.

I would suspect an inside job between the crew working with security before suspecting another passenger.

They’ve got your BP and X-ray of what you’ve got. The crew knows when people sleep and who’s going to ask if a crew member is rummaging through an overhead?

Would be a rather simple racket in many respects.

I’d ask the carrier where the crew is based and then check pawn shops.

Too bad the plane doors were already open when I discovered the robbery, and it took me time to get in touch with flight attendant. We were explained, that if the doors were not yet open then police is called and the usual scenario is that the missing items are found in the plane by the cleaners...

Bought one NOS with stickers SD4 in Danemark for a premium...
Now the thing is my stolen SD4 was my diving watch and almost daily wearer, now I got a brand new one I am not sure if I won't keep it new in box and speculate ;)

But I basically paid twice the price I paid the stolen one 4 years ago...

I have actually been able replace all what was lost, watch, pen, wedding rings, chain... which is a sort of relief even if the traumatism is still there...

Sleeping on a plane, especially in first class, was one of the last bastions of safety. As a professional pilot, this angers me. I hate to say it, but my first reaction was an inside job as well.

Sorry to hear.
How the heck did they know to search your bag?
I always travel with a pouch holding my watches that sits wrapped around my waist, inside my pants.
My wife knows it’s there so if I feel a hand down there, certainly won’t be hers.
