Is this a real dial?

I'm was thinking of purchasing this Boy size two tone with diamonds for about $3500 CAD, but noticed the tiny 'minute markers' are not there? Does this mean this is an aftermarket dial or a fake? I've tried searching around, but can find nothing, except links to what I think is the current model 16233JDD.

If this is a genuine watch, what are the implications of changing the dial? Is that generally looked down upon? How does that work with the diamonds? And last, you think its a good deal?

Any help would be appreciated!

Looking forward to learning all about the wonderful world of Rolexes!

First off welcome
Diamond dials are a specialised area, I don't know a lot about them, but lots of guys do.
So if you are patient, someone will provide some useful advice.
If the dial is aftermarket, then Rolex will probably decline to service it unless you get an original Rolex dial. That doesn't necessarily mean they will require you to get a diamond dial, just one that is issued to your model watch.
I personally like the minute markers, but it is up to you.
As for value for money that is up to you, but $3,500 doesn't seem too bad especially if the dial is original Rolex.
Good Luck and remember it pays to buy from a reputable seller

Looks odd to me without the minute markers. Also, I think the black dial looks much better.

Welcome to TRF!

If you look at the dial overview in the beneath link:

COMPLETE dial overview (2006). CLICK!

you can see that this dial DOES exist, original from Rolex.

You can see it under the "Datejust" dials, but I have saved the pic and uploaded it for you:

It is all a matter of personal prefence and taste, but in the long run I think you just might get tired of NOT being able to see those minute markers, so I would definately consider buying Tom "Kansaivets"!

A couple of other things to consider:
1. Does it have box and papers (they are always nice to have).
2. The gold bezel does look to have been polished taking the sharp edges off the fluting (a bezel is always replaceable on service), and looks like the watch case has been polished.
3. Do you know how old the watch is and when it was last serviced and by whom, if you have to get it serviced soon, then that is something to factor into the equation.

Indeed, Steve

Besides that, Tom's DJ has the COMPLETE PACKAGE, and it is virtually brand new!

Plus Tom's reputation is the best possible, so you get the comfort of buying from a seller you can trust 100 %

Just my 2 cents.

Without further examination, the dial looks good.

Thanks everyone! I've never seen such quick and helpful responses? Don't you all have to work?

Anyway, the seller is locally known and does not have box or papers or history. Already I can tell it's somehting you all would stay away from! He welcomes me to have it checked out at my local AD, but I just wanted to make sure this was something even worth that effort. The lack of the minute markers looks weird to me, but thank you Spacedweller for the link and image.

KanseiVet's watch looks awesome! I'm going to show my wife tonight. There is no FOR SALE section here is there? Where does everyone go shop pre-owned?

Welcome!! These guys are great, aren't they?

There is a classified section that has for sale items in it. Go to the main page of the forums and look down a bit and the link is there.
