Datejust value over time

As I understand it, a Datejust maintains it's value pretty well. Question is would a Datejust ever go up in value like some Rolex sport models? Are there any Datejust references that are worth more today than original retail price? I have no intentions on selling mine but curious if the value appreciates over time. Thanks.

Yes - datejust 41 fluted jubilee are in demand. Blue dial probably the highest.

SS sports models are in a league of their own.

IMO Most DJs will probably not appreciate much, if at all over time, wear and enjoy it! If you need to sell it in the future you can, but don’t expect to profit.

I think the fluted DJ41s generally hold their value pretty well. Although with most you will make a bit of a loss.

For the 126334 (blue baton dial, jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel), I believe these are trading over MSRP by about $1k-$2k at the moment...

I've been on the waitlist for quite awhile for this piece. AD told me they probably only get 2-4 a year, if that. From my understanding, the 126334 goes for around$1k-$2k over MSRP...

Other DJ41s don't seem to do too badly. They largely hold the bulk of their value although you will have a slight loss if you onsold one.

Depends what sort of timescale you are looking at. Long term they will not do great compared to sports I don't think. Just so many out there and so many variations.

Looking at the price of a DJ compared to a similar year Sports watch from any era and the DJ will generally be cheaper. I don't think this has shown on the DJ41 yet as its relatively new, but it will in years to come in my opinion.

The DateJust is a commodity watch for Rolex. They make a ton of them and there are a lot out there. Historically they lose value over time. In the near term shortage market we seem to be in, the DJ41 in certain combinations like the Blue Flute Jubilee, may be in enough demand to keep their value but this won't last long. You are not going to see a DJ normally appreciate in value like a vintage sport model. There are just too many of them in circulation.

lose value or stay above inflation?

if it stays above inflation, its certainly gaining value

absolute gains yes, relative value gains to sports model no.

they hold value really well even if DJ doesnt come with box papers and worn with some battle scars

if its a safe queen (full box papers hang tags manuals PLUS original receipt) with occasional wear, the DJ can reap some nice profits after 15 years +
