I think, one 5711, one precious metal, and one complication is a nice cross section.

5712 is the only one that would be worth to own

I tried one on in 2016. Was selling for $24K CAD secondhand. I didn’t really like it!

Depends on the ‘one’ as to whether 2 or 3 is too many. Beyond 3 I think there are so many other great watches to choose from that it is becoming questionable. Mixing complications, metal colours or dial colours opens up the possibilities a bit to extend the number.

Personally 1 is enough for collections under 10 watches.

That depends on price you paid for
If you pay retail AD maybe 2 is enough If you have to pay market price (100% over retail) : 0 is too much Its a nice watch like the 5980 but it doesn’t worth the value at 2 x price of Daytona with stunning white gold material. And Nautilus is not a real sport watch, non screw crown, Nautilus water proofing is often questionable when you go into extreme weather conditions when you go sailing or hunting in wild land or sea. Depends also on what is your hobby other than watch collecting; if you have traveling or sailing hobby Rolex is much better bet for sport watch; but if your hobby is more on indoor activities / secured outdoor environment (not extreme wild open ); such as making YouTube video, shopping luxury goods ; golf ; going on cruise or sport car collecting, then Nautilus maybe appropriate. And as you may know Nautilus was designed originally as ladies watch. So it lacks the masculine characteristics. In my case, I can get much more reliable sport watches at a fraction of the market price of Nautilus as I love photography , motorcycle racing and sailing; I often travel to places that have extreme weather and Nautilus just not adequately build. I often carry a Daytona , my smart phone and a G Shock for my sport activities. If I have an opportunity to buy Nautilus at right price, it wouldn’t be for my sport activity , as Nautilus is very delicate; it would be a casual/ non formal dress watch, maybe for an outdoor wedding invitation or casual business gathering or barbecue party. If I own a Nautilus, I would probably just wear it 2 weeks in a year, Rolex will still the watch sitting on my wrist most of the time. Right now I am wearing my GMT Master II. Not that expensive, I paid about US$5,500; 3 years ago and works nice for me. The value now has jumped in percentage term maybe more than Nautilus. But I am not selling it, so it doesn’t really matter. |
