You found a quality sales person. Rather then trying to sell her 26mm inventory which is more difficult to sell, she provided you with valuable information.

Yes, 31mm is more popular and says 2013.

31 MM, and not because of the dinner plate strapped on the wrist trend. The 26MM is just too hard to read unless you have superman vision.

Go for the 31 mm, not dainty and not like custom jewelry. Sounds like she would like the understated elegance of a classic design with the SS DJ, plus a little of the pop and flash from the diamond indexes. Check out the various dials besides just the black or white, including mother of pearls which will have to been seen to get the subtle colors and light reflections, some are dramatically nice. However, between black or white from your inquiry, I would suggest white in keeping with the understated elegance.

Just got my wife a 31mm. Definitely more popular and looks good on a woman's hand, no matter how thin she is.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I thought it would make more sense than starting a new one.

Wanted to get some opinions on this topic. My wife currently wears this 27mm piece:

It looks like a dainty watch on her and is relatively legible. I actually bought this as a daily wearer for her, but she thinks it's "too fancy" and it sits on the dresser a lot of the time.

So, I am looking to purchase a black dial Rolex for her as an anniversary gift either to be a daily wearer or to be her "dress-up" watch, so that she wears the Raymond Weil as her daily.

She's in her 30s, 5'4, normal build, and pretty low-key so nothing too flashy. I have narrowed it down to a 26mm Oyster Perpetual:

Or, a 31mm fluted bezel Datejust on a jubilee:

The fluted bezel is just stunning in person but I like the simplicity of the OP's dial vs the Datejust. Also, not sure about oyster bracelet vs jubilee.

Biggest concern I guess is size. Her current 27mm is legible but I wonder as the years go by, whether a 31mm model would have been a better choice. 31mm also seems to be the new norm for ladies watches but trends come and go. When I go down to the store, I'll have a salesperson try it on for comparison, but I'd be interested in opinions (and any wrist shots for reference).

Thanks.

Got my wife a 31mm DJ -- she loves it. 26 is too small IMHO.

Have her try some on. My wife tried some on the other day and liked the 34mm because she felt it was more legible.

Get her to try the Meteorite Date Just with diamond dial, now that is a special looking watch. Comes in 31mm my wife's preference but she likes up to a 36mm. Depends on the Lady but the best thing is to get her to try them on as you want know till you try it. As ladies are wearing even 42mm now there is no hard and fast rules.

My wife, who is considerably older than your wife, is 5' 8" tall and has a slender figure. She chose for herself a 36-mm TT Datejust (rose gold/stainless steel) with dark mother-of-pearl diamond dial. Had I been making the choice I would likely have selected a 31-mm watch for her but she preferred the 36-mm.

My wife likes the smaller size and hates larger watches. Let her decide.

Wish I could, but I'd prefer it to be a surprise.

Seems like the consensus is 31mm. Thanks for all the input!

Going against the flow here. My wife is 5'1 120 and she has been wearing this 26mm Lady Date for 15 years. She has tried a bigger watch and doesn't like them.

I know you want it to be a surprise but I would strongly suggest having her try a few on and go with her opinion rather than the opinion of a bunch of dudes on an internet forum.

My wife has a 26, but she's now looking at a 31. I think either is fine. The 26 is more classic, the 31 more current.

Personally, I think the 31 looks better on her.

I'd consider two tone.

For the Lady -- 26 mm or 31 mm?

My mom (almost 70) just got a new 26mm. My wife is getting a 31mm soon. I tried to convince mommy to get the bigger "more legible" size, but didn't work.

My wife thinks the 31mm is best for everyday and works great for special occasions, too.

P.S. Mods here prefer if you don't "resurrect" old threads (from what I've seen). Starting your own is way better.

My fiancee and I went to our local AD several weeks ago and tested both the 26mm and 31mm. Given her slim build and 5'5" height, we both agreed that the 31mm looked better on her wrist.

26mm

31mm

Up to her own preference I suppose. My girlfriend, who is quite tiny, wants a 34mm AK.

It sounds like your wife would appreciate anything you get her. That's being said, I agree with most folks here that the 26mm maybe difficult to read as time goes by...

I have been trying on and off to get my wife a 31mm.
She prefers the 26mm and she insists it's nicer for her.

Just be careful you don't by a second 'drawer watch'.

My mother has a 31mm and she thinks it's perfect.

What does she normally wear? Get her close to what she would choose on her own.

My little lady is 5'1", 115 lbs of lean muscle. She recently went from a 26mm for the past 15 yrs to a 31mm recently and is very pleased. Could have even looked cute in a 34mm Airing, but wanted the traditional look of a DJ TT jube for work.
