Why do I keep seeing the day-dates come up from reputable dealers sub 5 figures? These come with no bracelet, mind you. Could that be the difference? I absolutely love the watch, but hate wearing gold because I'd be too nervous about damaging it. So an alternative strap sounds perfect and budget friendly too.

I'm going to take a guess that these are probably older models, likely with 36mm dials that don't command top dollar. And the cost of a bracelet is not insignificant. For comparison, a new bracelet for the SS GMT Master goes for something on the order of $1800 so imagine what that would be for 18K gold.
