We only live twice.

I am planning on getting into Pateks the next time around.

Hopefully my rollies will have risen in value by then to help me afford them.

There are enough vintage Patek for 2000 dollar or a little more, just depends on which types.

I think this part sux. Dang, you pay 5k you shouldn't have to come up with 10% of the value every 4 years to keep it running.

My Rolex addiction is based on having finely crafted watches that display excellent workmanship and accuracy and a long pedigree of proven adventure/exploration rough-use history.

And yes, when I walk out of an AD after spending 5000.00 plus on a watch, I'm in some state of "WTF!!" shock. Spending the equivilant of a bathroom rennovation or used car on a wristwatch will cause many of us no small degree of buyer's remorse.

And I'm planning the purchase of my next Rolex

Spending 5K on a Rolex is alot smarter than buying a 25K car that will depreciate to nothing faster than you can blink an eye.

I hear ya. My fiance' agreed to buy me a Rolex as a wedding gift. She has no problem with it at all. She sees the value and meaning of owning a Rolex. And it's not just because I gave her an outrageously expensive engagement ring.

Enjoy your watch just as she enjoys her ring.

You cannot ride a Rolex to take you from point A to point B. You cannot really compare the two, you buy a Rolex and a car for two different reasons.

I don't think that rolex watches are the best investment available when it comes to jewellery. I just think that it's an excuse for spending so much money.Rolex is producing 900.000 watches per year and i believe that they sell a lot of them. With so many rolex watches out there do you think that your watch is gaining value? I don't think so. That's why they are trying to make price increases so that they are able to keep a value cause there are too many rolexes out there. I really like rolex watches but i don't think that i am going to earn a lot of money from them. It's just a fine timepiece

You can substitute, 50K, 75K, 100K, or most any other number when it comes to buying cars.

I love them but they are maintenance and depreciation whores!

It depends on the car. There are some cars that can hold good value

Name the cars under 100K that have retained 100% of their value after 5 years of use.

Well I am not referring to cars under 100k but i think that you can find 3 or 4 brands below 100k that can keep value. Actually there are only few cars that can keep 100% of the value after 5 years and these are cars that are really hard to get and that produced only in small numbers. An example is a Mclaren F1 or an Enzo. There are only 399 enzo out there. It is really hard for a car to keep 100% of the value after 5 years. Mercedes in the old days used to be a car that can hold great value only because few could afford one. For example my parents had a bentley continental GT and it was one of the first that were purchased but after 3 years the value was not so high.

Are you kidding me, BMW 7 Series depreciates horribly!

So, to recap, you have to spend US$500K - US$1M+ to get a car that may retain its value over 5 years. And you'd better not use it as a daily driver.

If you only spend 100K then there is no vehicle made that will retain its value after 5 years of use.

I look at it like ths. if your working towards purchasing a Rolex then you probably have alot of good-great things going on in your life. Maybe you reached the highest degree in your field or on the top of your career game All Positives. There are many facets of life. If you want to own 10 Rolex then I would say kudos to you!

You've just realised then.
Look at it this way Real Deal. Your gonna keep it for life and a $5000 it is probably workin' out at about a buck a day over the next 13.5 years. Now but that buck in a bank account and trust me in 13 years time the savings will have not brought you the same pleasure and memories as the Rolex.

Enjoy
