And now we have this investment mentality added in the mix so price is no object since it can only go up. If I can buy today at $100000, wear it for 2-3 years and guaranteed a re-sale profit of $XXXXX. I don't see why not, but the caveat here is the "guarantee".
It's absolutely right.

Social Media made watches less about wearing them and more about showing them off.

And then starting in 2019 onward, people talked about watches as investments instead of usable luxury goods.

When your dentist starts talking about how I should stop wearing my Platona and I should bubble wrap and/or flip it instead, you know something's wrong.

Where's the money actually come from if each person who touches my Platona flips it? Isn't that a ponzi?

In terms of the green 5711 number, it ranges from 400 to 20,000 based on "insiders' source" and "people in the know" comments, with the emerald 5711 1/3 of the 5711/1A-014's production.

I personally think it is at the lower end of the spectrum (because I'm sure I will be allocated 1 if there are 20,000 green 5711 releases) but only Thierry Stern has the answer.
Did you mean to say 400 - 2,000? Because I HIGHLY doubt Patek will produce 20,000 5711's in 1 year. That's more than 3rd of their entire production.

You are right, though, as by the time 2016 rolled around things were trending in the wrong direction.

This is in the US, of course. I know that Europe & the UK were insane long before us here.
Ahh got it, so you saw a completely different watch in an AD case in 2016.

This thread is about the 5711, not any random Nautilus ref.

Your dentist example is just so funny. It reminded me of my house cleaner in 1999/2000, every time he came to my house, he would try to strike up a conversation on dotcom stocks. And we all know how that went…

Yep, and neighbors in 2007 using home equity lines and margin accounts to build spec houses, “You can’t go wrong.”

Haha. This reminds me again of an acquaintance in 2007 kept telling me about the benefit of getting a no-down interest only adjustable rate mortgage to buy much more house than he/me can afford because house price would keep going up. He implied that I was too conservative/dumb to have a 10 year 2% mortgage at the time.

We all know how that went…

Did you ask your AD what happened to those 6 pcs? 1 of it should have been yours.
Your 5740 incoming prompted me send an email to the AD's Managing Director in Singapore.

You are right.

Even if we discount 2018 because it started arriving in Nov/Dec, it's been 2.5 years now.

is it just me or are prices starting to come down ? i feel like i'm seeing more listings (5712, 5711, 5726) with lower prices.
and those high priced ones are just sitting there.

now if these were all listed by individuals i'd be willing to bet prices stay, but since these are mostly dealers, i don't think they will

wishful thinking ?

Talked to someone at the watch box. He said they’ve never actually sold a 5711 above 100. He thinks the prices are capped.

EWC was asking for 99.9k for the sold 2012 blue.

Make your own conclusions to the next best available prices... You could probably find "cheaper" options via C24, so one could easily beat these prices... But these sites are easier to run by.

Except for the white, whose asking $ went up by at least 10-15lK ever since this thread started... The blue has been constantly asking for ~100K +/- for the past 2 months or so.

Did you mean horologically, or did you actually mean Homologically? Because that could go either way lol jk

and the biggest grey dealers are not open for negotiation. not noticing anything going down and i am eying one as soon as i feel prices go down below 100K for a new piece.

I also know about a long-term customer of my AD who privately sold his 5711 blue for around the same price.

That's what I call a stealth incoming post. Hiding the new 5740 in a 5711 price thread... LOL

Congrats!

I am not sure if I should hijack this thread but some of you would know that I have been waiting for my 5740 for awhile.

I emailed the CEO with a polite nudge ( I have only met him once) and he replied that they were doing their best to allocate another one for me.

Apparently in their records, I picked one up in 2019, a day before the Grand Exhibition! I replied point blank that I didn't and couldn't have because I was in SG for the same!

He didn't reply for a few days but when he responded to my email, he said one just arrived and it will be hand-delivered to me along with the usual random thanks for the support with no mention of the oddity.

So obviously something odd happened there and I am not sure if we will ever find out!

Could you please email the CEO again and ask him for a blue dial 5990 rose gold? I will share with you my details by PM. Thanks in advance!

Not been following prices that closely but Watchfinder have a 5711 2016 for £95K/$130K, looks like prices still very high on these.
