5960p

Helllloooo TRF
I am heavily considering purchasing a 5960p. Any thoughts on the watch? I checked and it seemend that in 2006~ they were selling for 62,500. Considering today they are selling for 92,700 I am trying to convince myself that it is a good investment for my kids! Does anyone have one? Is this model a waste of money???? Any feed back would be of big help!!!!

I know Brian has one! I've never seen the watch live but I must say I find it truly beautiful, not only is it well designed but the bullseye chronograph is quite original and the disposition of the complications makes the watch easy to read but also very nice to look at! As for the investment factor I do not like thinking this way when shopping for a timepiece but let's just say that the very first completely in-house automatic chronograph made by Patek can't be such a waste of money (especially since it also has an annual calendar), can it?

Great looking watch, definitely at the top of my list.

Although if your looking for investments, I would probably look somewhere other than a watch.

I don't know if its a good investment or not and I really don't care. Years ago the 5960 sold for a huge premium over msrp now it is discounted. Short term it wouldn't be a great investment, long term who knows but it will make you smile!

If I could only have one watch my 5960P would be it! It is perfect in every way in my opinion.

I am not looking at this as an investment as in terms of putting my kids through college. I hate to purchase a watch and then have it drop in value 1 year later. I like to purchase limited editions etc that hold their value over time and I am hoping the 5960p will fall be the same.

Well in this case I'd like to reassure you and tell you I strongly doubt it will ever lose its value (unless you smash it all around, that is...).

Just PM'd you Alex. It's a very versatile watch, and can be worn everyday - I wear mine much more often than I had expected to. I love mine, and would echo hutchman (mike) in stating that if I could only have one watch the 5960P would be it.

I wouldn't expect it to drop in value too much (if at all) from current levels. This is pure speculation on my part, but I would think the watch would at least hold its value and track inflation in the way that PPs and sought after Rolexes typically do.That said, the 5960P is not hard to find and I wouldn't consider it a rare investment piece. But who knows/cares. It's amazing to look at.

Happy hunting!

+1
In UK they are easily available in AD which is not a good sign for resale. However, if you manage to get a used one, it's another matter.

The 5960P is my current favourite chronograph bar none. How it cram so much function into a 40mm case with such an elegant dial is an amazing feat.

If I got the money to buy one, I wouldn't keep it for my next generation, I will wear it everyday til I lost my last breath!

It is an amazing watch and of Patek chronos in my top 3. Is it going to be a hot collector watch like the 5070P? No as there are far too many in circulation. Will it be a great everyday watch which you will love and enjoy? Absolutely!!!

it is an amazing piece Alex! I bought one 2 years ago and never wore it. It was kept in my safe for two years and this year I decided to gift it to my father as he just turned sixty. I stared at it for two years straight and was mesmerized by its beauty everytime I would see it. Never got tired of it. I say, go for it and this is that one piece you won't look back n regret. And with the way prices take on their crazy courses, it won't surprise me at all if down the line the 5960p ups its value even more. Just my 2 cents.

Happy hunting!

Wow, what a gift .
As far as value retention, I believe the past few years has proven that the 5960 will deliver a stable "investment" over time. The fact that the retail price has gone from $78k or so to over $92k in the past couple of years, will support the value of the used pieces out there. There will always be a market for such a fine chrono as this.

I must disagree somewhat with a previous poster (sorry Ken) regarding the collectability of the 5960p based on the fact that there are far too many in circulation. Based on the relatively small annual production of all PP's (excluding 24's), there aren't really that many examples of any PP reference (in the grand scheme of things).
Ken's point is well taken, but compared to any Rolex model, any PP is extremely rare. All that being said, it makes a great daily wear, while making it's owner much taller, thinner and better looking.

Ken--congrats on 1000 posts!! I agree it is certainly limited in production vs. a Rolex. My point was I don't see it as a hot collectible like a 5070P which only 200 were made after an 12 month production run. It has had a nice run thus far and looks like it has a good while ahead of it. Again-it is an amazing watch and the first Patek Chrono I ever owned!!

I know you're kidding Ken, with that collection of yours I'd expect something that would sound more like "oh, another Patek...can't you just offer me a tie or slippers from times to times!?".

PP is making ALOT of these! It's the only watch that every AD I've been in lately (out of about 15) has in stock. Many dealers have several in stock.

Great watch, but definitely only buy new if you can get a steep discount. Preowned is the best deal.

Good luck and please post pics!

30%?! Wow that's impressive if that's from an AD. I've never seen that on ANY Patek, maybe I'm just not a good enough client (or not a good enough negotiator)!
