5513 circa 1867 meters first swap with James Cameron Sea dweller?

Hi there, I'm a first time user and haven't posted before. I have a 1967 Metres first Sub 5513 on its original spring bracelet. I also have the original service booklet.
I have been offered a 2016 Deep blue Sea dweller James Cameron boxed papers etc full set. My friend wants to swap watches. Straight swap, no extra cash either way.
What are your thoughts on this please?????

Personally I think you're getting the better end of the swap, but not by much these days. They wear very differently. I've had both and sold my MF 69 sub with no regrets..... and for a lot lot less than a deep blue sells for!

Oh, and if you've got an 1867 I wouldn't swap as that's a very very rare beast!

Dollars wise it's probably a pretty fair trade. Is your 5513 completely original?

No way, I wouldn't do it. You would be swapping a (full set?) vintage 5513 for a watch that is still being produced today. There are a ton of DSSD JC around..
Nope

Hi there. My names Tim and I live in the UK.
My 5513 is dated 1967. The dial is original with Matt black finish and untouched. The plexiglass window is original too as is the riveted sprung bracelet. I've just spent £360 getting 4 new Rolex springs replaced. I also have the original Rolex service book with a 1971 service entry stamped up within. It's completely original in every way. Quite rare I think.

It all comes done to the condition of your 5513 but if it's a great example I wouldn't consider an exchange for a watch still under production.

I've owned both (1967 mint all original one owner watch) and the Dblue, at the same time. They are two completely different pieces obviously.

For me I just never warmed up to the vintage as much as I hoped I would.

Good luck deciding

There is no way I'd swap vintage for modern. You're going to regret it if you ever want to replace.

A mf 5513 is timeless, whereas another special edition Rolex is just around the corner.

I sold my '67 and missed it and then got myself another vintage sub.. The Cameron is a beautiful watch but unless you have tried one on and have a larger wrist it will feel like wearing a toaster since the bracelet wasn't upsized..

In my opinion, it would not be prudent to exchange a vintage watch that would be difficult to source for a modern watch that is still in production that can be bought either from an AD or from a trusted seller. It is obviously your watch and your choice, but your friend would be getting a far better deal than you would.

Significantly better.

No, no and no. Unless of course you're not wearing the Sub! Post pictures here. If for example fully original your 5513 will be a rare beast. If it is ratty with newer dial, hands etc, then the swap could work in your favour. Who approached who?

Incorrect.
The bracelet was indeed upsized over that on the Sub.
Just not quite as much as some would prefer.
Regardless, the watch will always wear on the very large side for a Rolex.

Quite right.
Espacially when one is talking about a genuine meters first.

I have both - DSSD-blue and 5513 meters first (a 68). Love and wear them both, but I agree with the many comments above - if the 5513 is all original and in great condition, I wouldn't do that swap. DSSD-blue will always be available.

Value for value - sounds like a fair swap. If you the Deep Sea, go for it.
