Advice needed - which blue DJ36 (AD has called...)

Hi all

I have had my name down for a DJ36 blue dial, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet for a few months and today my AD called to say it is in.

I love the piece and I am looking forward to it but since the new dials were announced I am in a little doubt since the new blue fluted dial looks great. I have not seen the fluted dial in person and it is possible that the dial might be a bit much or make the watch too busy with a fluted bezel and jubilee. But I still have a nagging doubt.

I am not sure if I should just accept the standard blue and be happy or wait for the new dial (I am also conscious that the new fluted dials might be harder to get). I am sure the new dial will be the hot model in the short term at least but wonder if the standard blue might have longer lasting appeal.

I don't want to irritate the AD (although I am sure they can sell the normal blue without trouble) because I am hoping to get more pieces. The AD has said they haven't got the new ones in yet.

Any advice welcome. Thanks

I like the regular standard blue dial more than the new motif blue dial.

If you aren't quite sure that which one you like it more, you can wait for the new blue and make a decision at that time. It's better to wait than feel sorry later.

Standard blue is likely the safer bet...looks great on fluted + jubilee.

The new blue motif is attractive...I like it better on smooth bezel + oyster. Best wishes

I was thinking the same as you because the DJ36 blue dial, fluted bezel, but on Oyster, is next on my wishlist. When I first saw the new blue fluted motif dial I thought it looked cool, and it does, but the more I look at it, I think it is too busy with a fluted bezel, and I'm not sure if it'll still catch my fancy in 5 years. As mentioned earlier by another member, I agree that the new fluted motif dial would look better with a smooth/oyster combo. I'm going to stick with the classic sunburst blue.

I think this is the right decision- the watch will look as good today as it will 25 years from now. I’m not so sure that claim could be fairly applied to the fluted dial, however cool it looks in photos.

I would go with the blue dial regardless but remember it may be years - if ever - before you get the call for the other one. Good luck.

IMO go with the one you requested, it's a great option. Furthermore, the AD came through on your request in good faith, it's nice to reciprocate. It's also the more universal dial which still has a very spectacular appearance, beautiful sunburst.

The new fluted dial option is very appealing too, but perhaps a little too niche and borderline excessive in the fluting motif.

My personal favorite among the 36mm datejust offerings is the white dial with roman numerals, on a fluted bezel with oyster bracelet. I once read the opinion that roman numerals look best with a smooth bezel, and lume stick hour markers look best on the fluted, but I still can't help but feel this particular white dial is supremely elegant and would look amazing on leather straps as well.

Thanks all - having slept on it I am much more settled on the decision and will go for the piece that has come in. As others have said I just suspect it will have longer lasting appeal.

Thanks again for all the input.
