Agreed, although it’s hard to tell how much we are influenced (against our will) by the hype. I never cared for a Daytona, until I saw how much on demand it is

most people will say blnr but because the hulk is more limited people may choose that option. I remember when the batman was more rare more people voted for it

There are many threads about this
My vote stays for the LV with a small edge!

The LV is great as part of a collection, but the BLNR is more versatile

That having been said, I own the LV and not the BLNR

I have both and they are both great watches. If it’s going to be your one and only - the gmt is more versatile. The jubilee dresses it up a bit and the bezel color works with just about anything. That being said - if your biggest concern with the hulk is a new generation coming out - go with the hulk- movement is not a big deal between these two now.

That is a hard choice. It would depend on what my collection has in it. On pure esthetics, I would choose the GMT but my favorite line of Rolex are the divers and so if I had a black face diver already, then I would go BLNR. If no other diver, would choose the LV.

I have both and love the sunburst dial of the LV as it appears more versatile, but find myself wearing the BLNR more as the jubilee just makes the watch pop and is a GMT. For long term I would hold onto the LV over the BLNR.

I have owned both the BLNR and Hulk and just moved on the gmt for an Explorer so it’s the Hulk for me.

I prefer a Submariner and the Hulk would be the one out of these two choices.

I’m not sure I understand the definition of “relevant” in this case. From a style standpoint, Rolex don’t tend to make step changes to their models very often. My view is no Rolex is “out of style” but if you are just always looking to have the latest of everything I guess you have to be prepared to get a new watch every couple years. Movements change, color combos change, bracelet options change. I think the GMT has undergone more change recently than the Submariner so perhaps it’s logical to think the GMT will remain untouched for a bit longer. In the end, the advice given above about wearing what you love is the best advice you’ll find.

I do not like green and the GMT has a more useful complication for me

Sub for me in this case. Don't like the jubilee bracelet on the GMT so much. BTW I like the batmen but not the (new) batgirl.

The facts:
  1. This will be my only watch for a while.
  2. I love both models for different reasons.
  3. The 116610LV feels less dressy and more durable.
  4. I worry the 116610 will be updated within ~2 years.
  5. I worry the 116610LV will not be discontinued, but also updated, at that time.
  6. I am young(ish) and inevitably I like non-discontinued models.
  7. I don't buy to collect or for future value, I want relevant models.

I know these posts are frustrating to some, but my biggest concern is picking up a 116610LV only to have a new-movement (and aesthetically-different) version released in the next ~2-3 years.

LV for me. The black black black GMT is much nicer than the batman.

I have both and it's 100% the oyster BLNR for me. I love everything about it. To be honest, the LV is meh to me..it's very cool, but I wouldn't hesitate to move it in the right deal.

I'd probably still take the jubilee BLNR over the LV too. I just purchased a 63600 jubilee to get the best of both worlds.

The sub is probably the play if you only get 1 watch. Generally the less busy the watch, the easier it is to justify with formal wear. The sub is the less busy of the 2 and thus will be easier to pull off with a suit IMO.

Don't worry about the movement update. A new movement is unlikely to be a big deal for the sub and wouldn't be a reason to upgrade in the future.

I am 26 and have the all gold, blue dial sub. Works great as an all around watch, esp if you only want to have one watch at this point in your life.

Thanks again for the input, everyone. I have to let my AD know by 5:00pm today which model I'll be taking, so it's crunch time.

I guess my biggest concern is that any movement update for the 116610LV would also be accompanied by an aesthetic update, albeit minor, which would render the existing LV as "dated" (see: 116660 vs. 126660.) I know that this is a ridiculous concern for a watch meant to last a lifetime, but I know myself and how I'd feel.

Still, I'm leaning towards the 116610LV. In my mind, it will always be the "original" Hulk, similar to how the 116710BLNR is the "original" Batman, and there are too many variables in my concerned logic:
  1. Rolex may take a few more years to update the Submariner movement.
  2. Any aesthetic Submariner updates could prove less-desirable (see: 116710BLNR vs. 126710BLNR.)
  3. Rolex may only update the LN Submariner and discontinue the LV altogether.
  4. If after all is said and done, a new and better LV is released, I can just...upgrade.

I really wish Rolex wouldn't take so much time updating movements across different product lines; buying anything with an old movement right now feels like what you buy will inevitably be refreshed within a few years.

I voted LV. But after you reiterated how important having a current model means to you, get the BLNR. At least you'll be happy with it for more years.

You seem to feel pretty strongly about having the most current thing. Be glad that Rolex does take many years to update anything. If you were into smartwatches, your watch would be outdated like, every other Wednesday.

The BLNR is more versatile IMO. If you travel at all it will also be more useful than the LVc.

If you decide on the BLNR take a good look at the Oyster. These are not Apple Watches nor fashion watches. Discontinued doesn’t mean out of style. In fact see it as a good thing. That said there’s a very good chance that Rolex updates the LVc with the 3235 in the next couple of years. Whether or not it will be hard to buy depends on where the economy is at. The 3285 in the jubilee BLNR will not be updated for over a decade.

I voted for the LV because I like it best out of the two. Actually, it's no contest really, since I don't like the BLNR. I have the LV. I'm not bothered how long it will remain in production or what it's future value will be. I just love the watch.

I don't love the 16610LV at all. For me, the Hulk just hits the spot. It doesn't matter what (if anything) will replace it because I have the watch I want now, as opposed to possibly having the watch I might want if it ever existed at some point in the future.

That's all good for me. But what about you? I can't tell you how to think and I can't tell you what you like. What I will say is that if you have your heart set on a Rolex and you're going to do it, buy the one that sings to you. Never mind what anyone else thinks. Never mind what might or might not happen at an indeterminate future date. And if neither sing to you, or you just can't decide, maybe you haven't found the right watch yet.
