Speedmaster 1957 on Staib Mesh

This is a very well made and substantial bracelet that I can highly recommend. I bought the polished SS version which was just under $200. Supremely comfortable too. Hope this helps anyone looking to switch out to mesh on their speedy

Looks amazing. Can you give me some more info on the bracelet?
I saw the new titanium Milanese on the new seamaster and I love it.
Thanks

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your feedback. I will answer all your questions in this post. I was looking for the highest quality mesh bracelet I could find. After much research, I ended up with Staib which is a germany based bracelet manufacturer. The bracelets come in 3 variants and all are solid 316L stainless. 1. all polished (mine), 2. all brushed and 3. black (I’m guessing PVD but I didn’t buy that one). They also then have the option of a hidden butterfly clasp (I guess for dressier applications) or sports style double safety clasp (the one I got).

Mine is the non tapering 20 x 20 x 4.1 thick. They also sell 22 and 24. The ebay link for mine is below, but the other variants are also on ebay under this seller which, after receiving mine, I see is actually Staib themselves selling and shipping from Germany. The bracelet arrived in the US really quickly, just 5 days (this was during the COVID19 shutdown too) and the shipping was free.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/362253165422

I went for the 175mm but they also have the 155. My wrist is 7.5 inch and the 175 is slightly loose fitting with the two pin adjustments at the very lowest setting. If I was to buy again I would probably buy the 155, since sometimes I like a like tighter fit and with the 175 I’m right at the maximum and its still a little loose, but when my wrist expands outside, it fits perfect. Anyone with 7 3/4 wrist or more would need a 175 using a speedy pro (42mm) watch case, if your wrist is less or the watch case is smaller, get the 155.

As for quality, well you get what you pay for, this cost me $200. I tried some others (strapcode and two others) that feel like cheap junk compared to this bracelet. Its all solid build, beautifully finished and very substantial feeling. After having held and tried numerous from other brands, this is the pinnacle of quality. Also, if you look carefully at the OEM Breitling and Omega, especially the clasp, I have a sneaky suspicion that these bracelets are also sourced from staib by these oem watch brands and deployed as oem, with merely the logo engraved on the double clasp lock.

I am delighted with this purchase and think it really makes my speedy pop, while also giving a touch of vintage class. The other advantage is the amazing comfort of mesh bracelets, I had no idea they’d be so comfortable. Finally, the bracelet is so substantial it literally holds/weights the watch head down, planted snug to your wrist, even if the bracelet is left slightly lose like I wear mine. The bracelet accepts standard oem omega spring bars which I believe are 1.8mm.

Here are some extra photos for you guys, and if you get one, pls post your photos here

Wow it looks gorgeous, OP. I think this is going to be the bracelet i am getting for my SMP as I intend to preserve my original 1610/930 bracelet.

Do you know if this comes in 20-18 configuration also ? Thanks.

I don't think it does, but why would you want it in 20-18? It already ships with the 20 mm clasp so you will not be able to retrofit another, especially due to the thickness of the mesh.

Maybe I have not understood your question?

Looks fantastic, Been fence sitting on one of these for literally years. I have heard from multiple sources that Staib does the mesh for Breitling (as you said) among others.

Sorry, not for me.

The bracelet looks great quality, but really needs curved/fitted end links, the gap between the case looks way too big.

Hi wobbly, Omega sells sought after OEM pieces with this bracelet and the case gaps are the same.

Even though Omega sells a similar bracelet, I’m still not keen on the end link fitment.

Just my personal choice.

Looks great!
Are the clasp ends on spring bars? Or is the spring pin integrated to the mesh? Just thinking about swapping the clasp

Yes it’s all spring bars, however, do remember that these bracelets aren’t tapered so in my case it’s 20 x 20. I’m not sure if the 22 or 24 they offer tapers but even if they did I’m guessing it would be down to 20. It isn’t that easy to find a 20 clasp and if you look at my photos you’d need one that is quite thick, since the mesh is 4.2 mm.

Staib

I read your posting on the 20 mm bracelet and decided to buy one for a older Hamilton Chronograph I picked up. I had a similar issue with a 22 mm and I suppose it might help with your sizing issue. Took it to a jeweler and had them add an additional hole so that I may tighten the bracelet up a bit. Worked like a charm.

Guys, you know you can go to an Omega Boutique and order a bracelet?

I bought an Omega Ploprof Steel Mesh with Clasp for seven hundred and change.

24-20 taper but Omega also made 22-20 and 20-20 mesh for the same ploprof clasp.

I've had the Staibs and they are nice... but the OEM mesh / clasp is special.
