Speedy Tropical Premoon: To Relume or Not to Relume

Just acquired this 145.022.69 in beautiful tropical dial. Seemed like during the course of its life, there's water ingression. There were visible water spots between 6-9. Some printings and most lumes were also gone.

Casing is in seemingly unpolished state and the 861 is running at +3.

Now I'm split whether or not I should relume this beauty. If yes any suggestions who might be experienced / specialized in reluming vintage speedy?

I think it looks cool the way it is. I wouldn't be in a rush to take action on that.

I would leave it that way, maybe get it serviced, and put the relume money towards a new watch that glows.

Thanks for all the reply. Majority says leave it however I'm tempted to try Michael Young in HK. I heard only good things about the work he did for vintage rolex and omega.

I obtained this piece for a really good price (less than 5k usd) and was thinking if it's screwed, it doesn't really hurt a lot.

The lume was really 'washed' and kind of bothers me. was thinking if I put some color as Michael said he can do non-glowing lume that matched the overall natural patina of watches from this period.

I'm really torn

Spent around usd500 for total overhaul. So this baby is ready to rock and roll, except for the washed lumes

I'd have the lume redone, but only if you can find someone who is an expert. If you cannot find anyone in Indonesia, can I suggest Adam Lewis at Lewis Watch Co (LWC) in Perth, Australia. He is an Omega specialist and also well regarded for re-luming and case refinishing.

Thanks for your suggestion. Michael is highly praised more on vintage rolex. It'll be interesting to chat with Adam. Thanks again arcadelt

If you want to see your watch at night, buy an inexpensive pre-owned Speedy. Leave yours for daytime only duty.

Sorry, I am not vintage watch specialist/enthusiastic so to me it looks water damaged dial only and I would try to replace it with similar aged but in better condition dial.

I guess it's not that easy to find an original period correct tropical dial for this. If there's one available, probably it'll cost the same as the watch

Thanks for chiming in. It's not so much wanting the lume to glow tho. It's more of a cosmetic in bringing back the washed lume with period correct non-glowing color

I would leave it the way it is. You should get your watch a modern speedy companion with lots of lume.

Thinking about it but modern omega doesn't really excite me as they're launching new models at a very dizzying rate

I would leave as is. As others have said, if you want to a watch that glows, buy a newer one next. Planet Oceans glow like lighthouses.
Just got my 1973 Heuer Montreal back from a service, no lume but the watch is still singing to me.

I’d leave as is. If you relume it, I think you’d lose a lot of its charm
