Seiko padi sne435

My watch is at the Mahwah repair facility. They want $251 to repair it. I paid $231 for it 5 years ago. Should I buy new one or have them repair it?

Just curious to see what others might do.

I'm on the "list" for a Submariner at an AD in NJ. My local AD's where I was apparently on the "list" since last summer are no longer authorized AD's.

I'd buy a new one. I faced the same situation when my Turtle PADI leaked in water after 3 years of being a daily beater and it traveled with me around the world, I had another brandnew spare Turtle PADI to replace the bad watch but learned that these low-end Seikos are not made to last with heavy usage ... So I got a killer deal ($220) on Citizen Titanium diver GMT, and oh boy this Eco-drive watch is much higher quality than the Turtle. As for the the Sub, good luck getting it if you never bought anything from the AD

I dont view my watches as disposable, as they build memories and associations. I have a sub 16610 now (many other Rolexes in the past) and the cost of the watch is not a consideration with the question of unloading. Like my sub, my blue SRP773J will get service when it needs it, and not simply flipped. May as well get an apple watch in that case. In many ways we live in a disposable culture but it is mechanical and can be repaired and last for a very long time to come.

Replace it but realize that money is also going to be depreciated away in a few years when the new one fails.

You may want to replace it with something else like a Tudor diver.

So let’s say he does that, assuming that the tudor is more robust, which may not be the case, and in researching seiko over the years many last decades. So he gets the more expensive watch, services it less, but when he does costs double. If he had it 5 years, serviced it for 250 bucks, that’s 500 every 10 years. From the pure financial standpoint the tudor diver may not be best option, unless of course one just likes it better. In that case, I’m all for that lol.

I wouldn’t own a watch that has a service expense equal to 100% of its replacement cost. But that’s just me
