Icon20 Patek 5205R, G; 5905R, P - and while at it 5960a

Dear Y'all, Pleasure meeting you. I am new on this site and this is my first posting.

I've been seriously considering Patek 5205 or 5905. Appreciate your thoughts and help. I love all variations and will be happy with any of them, but not equally!! Also solicit your thoughts if it makes sense to trade my 5960a white dial. Apologies for any possible redundancies with previous postings.

I have a 5960a that I love.
I have seen in person Patek 5205R black dial, 5205G blue dial and 5905R Brown dial. I have not seen 5905P blue dial.

On its own, 5205R black dial is gorgeous but I feel I need some tattoos all over my arm to wear 5205R black dial well. Between that and 5905R brown dial, 5905R is the certain winner. No question. LOVE it. The size, the weight, and the elegance. A bit too showy for my taste. But absolutely stunning.

5205G blue dial is magnificent. The best blue I have seen, better than a Lange 1 I had years ago, and better than 5396R-015 blue dial which is gorgeous. The 5205G blue dial is elegant and yet subdued. Maybe a bit formal with the dial, good for evenings when I hibernate.

Should i go for 5905P with its beautiful but possibly less interesting blue, unseen?

Good idea to trade in my 5960a and how much should i expect? (about 4 years old, not worn much)? or stay put?

I reckon my wrist size is considered medium. In general 42mm fits perfect. 40mm is ok. Life style relatively casual, almost never ties or suits. I enjoy beauty for myself not for others. My taste tends to be on the modern side but i do appreciate the classics.

Other relevant Patek items in collection: 5320G (LOVE it); 5524G, 5296G,..

Thank you for your thoughts.

Sincerely.

Since you love your 5960a and lifestyle is more casual, I'd stay put. Why get a dressier piece? You may be aware and it may not bother you, but take a close look at the 5205 day and month window. It is not symmetrical/even against the hour marker (10 for day, 2 for month). 5905 appears that way as well but have not confirmed in person. 5960a is not like that.

The different widths of day and month window is bothering me on all those ACs. 5905 is just the same as 5205 in that respect. The fonts seem to be different too in terms of width per letter. If you look close enough you'll see that the day and month windows have different size on 5960A as well.

Thanks Rdragon. I had heard about that but never really understood it until i read your explanation. Thank you. I will go to the shop today and look for that.
I do love 5960a but I think 5905R or 5905P (that i have not seen) look much better.

Yeah, although the 5960a does not stand out like the other 2 which you can see quickly/clearly. 5960a is very difficult to see since the 5 min markers are small squares. The right edge of the month window appears to line up with the right edge of the 10 min square marker. Where as the left edge of the day window appears to line up with the 1 tick before the 50 min square marker (at 49.75 min mark). Quite difficult to notice in real life but can see in macro/zoomed photos. But, with the baton hour markers on the other 2, it shows too easily and is magnified since it appears as a gap.

Sure thing. Let us know how you feel after seeing irl. I like the 5205 and it would be a serious piece to consider if it wasn't for this. Once you see it, think it will be hard to ignore...the gap is too noticeable.

I look for it now. You know, i love 5212a ..the date window bugs me a tad bit from first time i saw it in Geneva. I wish it were same color as the dial rather than the white now willing to pay extra to get it :)

Here's my choice. Love my 5205R. Haha I'm biased....

(ps: man the forms requirements really butcher the picture quality).

2nastie. I love your watch. it is a nasty one and darn good at it. When i put it next to 5905R, my heart went with 5905R but man, yours is good as is.

5905 and 5205 are both very similar watches. Just depends on whether u prefer a moonphase or chronograph. Really can't go wrong with either though.

I think the 5905 is slightly sportier with its thicker case while the 5205 is dressier with its thinner case.

Here are some pics of my 5205g that i always post when i see ppl talking about this model.

Cheers

The blue of 5205R

Fishrus, that blue is mesmerizing...i love it. i have pretty much decided i go with that or the 5905R, primarily for its elegance and size/weight

Lots of great options you are considering. I have a 5905P and think it is stunning but I like chronographs. The blue is awesome and the fly back chrono is something I enjoy and use. Plus Patek used to have that as their picture at the tip of the complications page so I figure that is worth something. Best of luck with the decision and you can’t go wrong.
I would add a picture but can’t ever get it to size properly.

Dear MrHensih, thank you for your note and thoughts. How do you compare the blue in the 5905P versus the blue in 5205G? Do you find the 20K differential well justified?

I wish i could have seen the 5905P in person. Considering flying out of the Yonder to a major city to touch that and finalize my decision. I went to the shop in Yonder today and wrote a trip report, albeit as an independent posting (my bad)...i will add it here

Howdy Y'all.

I'm in search of my last Patek dress watch for when i have my cowboy boots off.

5905R brown dial 44mm. Love the elegance, weight, and the size feels right for my 7.5 inch wrist. Also for my skin tone that rose gold looks great.

5205R black dial that i find attractive is out of the running now.

5205G Blue dial continued to mesmerize. I love the under the radar-ness of the white gold.

In comparison to my own surprise, 5960a humility topped them all. It's a keeper.

5320G was the best of the pack but does not stop me from wanting one more.

So, now it boils down to 5205G or 5905R. Wish i could have seen 5905P blue dial in person. Somehow i could not post pictures, some sizing dilemma...
Sorry y'all.

Have you gotten a chance to try it on? My wrist is smaller than yours so the 5205 is likely the max size I like. The 5905 would be too large for me but I love the bronze/brown dial on it especially with the R. Although similar casing the 5205 with the hollowed lugs is nicer IMO.

If you are going with a more casual everyday watch the 5205G. If more special occasion go for the 5905R

Hi 2Nastie, as stated in my previous posting I did visit our local AD. They had 5205R black dial, 5205G blue dial, and 5905R brown dial but not 5905Platinum...my favorite is 5205 dial which was mesmerizing, but i do prefer the 42mm size of 5905R.

If u are looking for a pure dress watch consider the opal or white dial of the 5205R. It’s very mesmerizing and goes well into board meetings plus with a strap change can go well with a casual affaire if needed.

Missed that part haha. Then I would say go with the 5905R if the size is better for you. Regardless of how beautiful the watch is, if it doesn't fit the way you like on your wrist (big or small) you tend to regret it later on.

I had this experience with my RO 15400. At the end I didn't wear it enough due to the size so I sold it. I might eventually get a 15450 to replace it.
