Need a favor from JJ

JJ,

A question came up on another watch forum about just how the end link on the TT Yacht-Master is held together. That is, on the end link where the bracelet attaches to the case, how are the outer steel sections attached to the center gold section?

Since you're the only person I know who has this watch, I was wondering if you could try something for me:

1. Take the bracelet off the watch, and put it on a solid surface.

2. On one of the end links, position a chisel right in the corner where the outer part of the link buts up against the gold center section.

3. Give the chisel a few firm, solid whacks with a hammer, until the parts of the link separate.

4. Report back (preferably with pictures) on what appears to bond the parts of the link together.

Thanks, buddy! :-) I owe you one.

JJ, maybe you could perform the same test with the case itself? We can see just how sturdy that baby really is? Thanx in advance as well...

I think if you are going to go to all this trouble testing the metallurgy of the TT Yacht-Master, it would be a shame not to test the strength of the overall bracelet by laying it on the pavement and running over it with your car, making sure to backup and run over it a 2nd time just to be sure...

You got that right, JJ. Like telling someone to drop an anvil from a 30-story building on their Rolls...

Maybe you could put the bracelet in a vise and and cut through the area where the pieces join. Cut along the gold part -- it's softer. If you're not comfortable with how the bracelet looks when you're done, well... go get that TT Daytona. :-)
