Would you pay more for a correctly oriented crown?
Hey everyone! New to these forums and thought I’d start a discussion around something that’s been interesting to me. Rolex makes incredibly high quality timepieces...and the fact that the crown isn’t always right side up has always bothered me. They’ve fixed this in the newer OP watches, so it’s clearly within their capabilities, but not yet on their other models.
But occasionally you find a watch that just so happens to have the crown oriented correctly. Would you pay extra for such a watch? If it was a grail watch for you, would you care about the perfect orientation? Or do most people not care? Anyone have any idea if on future sports models Rolex will try and orient the crowns just like on the newer OPs? |

Pay more. No. Do I look at it and given a choice pick one that is oriented in one of two positions that I find to be "correct". Yes...

It doesn’t bother me at all. What bothers me slightly is that I won’t be able buy my grail DD for at least 3-4 years and if the crown is upside down I’d still buy it. I won’t pay more because it doesn’t matter to me

I never give it a thought, certainly would not pay extra.

I think it’s bad that the crown is not aligned, so I would pay a little extra for it to be, not much though. That being said, it definitely should be aligned and I am disappointed even in new releases it still isn’t.

It makes no difference how a Rolex crown is aligned, it is always "correct".

The crown alignment is the fun meaningless lottery. Some get it perfect and some don’t. Paying more for a aligned crown implies a issue if they are not and that isn’t true.
That said, my DJII is strait but I don’t care or even notice.

No, I would not pay more. The day it goes in for service to the movement, it might not line up the same anyway.

Imagine being that guy who waits months / years for an in demand reference, only to reject it because the crown isn't that right way up!

Nope, doesn’t bother me in the slightest. If you care, then take a look at sky-dwellers, I believe they come aligned.

Just unscrew it a little until it is lined up. Problem solved. The WR isn’t dependent of the crown being screwed down.

Many times the misalignment is caused by over tightening the crown. Over time it gets further and further off.

When I wear my watch the crown is facing away from me so I don’t notice and certainly don’t care.
