Has anyone heard of the new Salvadore Dali skeleton AP?

In case images don't show up: https://imgur.com/a/9IHKbFc

This is the most damaged AP I've seen so far. The worst one til now had the bracelet ripped off from both ends, while the endpieces stayed attached to the case.

We can only speculate. Looks like it was done intentionally. So out of revenge perhaps? For the one before we were told the client fell off a horse. Called BS on that cause it looked like a car went through it.

Maybe thieves tried to pull the watch fast and strong from the owner's wrist, just like what they usually do with necklaces. That's my guess, most likely wrong.

The amount of force to do this, damn. If it's insured I would take the pay-out. Seems like a lot of $$$$$ to fix.

Sounds very plausible

How is it plausible? The force had to be huge.

If you rip it off someones arm, no matter how fast or hard, I doubt it could shift the bezel in another direction, take out a chunk of the case and another chunk at the bottom. Even if you fall and struggle.

True, but maybe two forces pulling from the opposite direction of each other might have been strong enough to break on the weaker part which is the crown?

Anyway, there are tons of possible reasons this timepiece ended this way. Hopefully, we will get to know more from OP.

That's what we're thinking. The watch looks like someone threw it at the floor with force with the intention of breaking it.

Holy hell! Whatever happened I hope it wasn't on the owner's wrist when it did.

Unlikely it was on the wrist for that damage to ensue, and if it was then one can only imagine the injury to the wrist would be severe (hope not). It looks more like the watch may have been inside some type of cover/case while it was going through this trauma. The crystal on both sides is not cracked at least in these pictures. Direct heavy blow(s) would not leave the crystal unscathed. The crown seems to have been caught in something and pulled with such force so as to cause the case to come apart. Just my hypothesis, could be all wrong.

Very sad indeed regardless of the backstory.

Owner must have hit a door knob while walking out of a room. Hate it when that happens.

Looks like it caught on something on the lower back of the case while there was a strong lateral pull on the bracelet which ripped the case apart. Almost as if someone had held it by the clasp and smashed it against a corner of something with the back of the case

My money is on either motorcycle accident, wife/girlfriend (ex?) going to town with a heavy object or hammer, or perhaps it was run over with a car. If the crown was on the ground and a vehicle ran over it, this might account for the crown tearing through the case and spinning the guts.

Are the gold cases for the Royal Oak (and other Audemars Piguet collections) hollow to the extent and in the way that the part under the separated crown suggests?

A lot of the Royal Oaks and Offshores have inner cases. This is not a new thing and actually goes back to the first Royal Oak. The black gasket you see under the bezel on new models is only decorative, but back in the day it was part of a case gasket that went through the entire case. Though there were a few generations of Royal Oaks that were completely solid.

Thank you for the interesting information Viktor. What is the inner case made from? Is this practice used across watchmaking from the peer group, or do others use more gold in their cases? Is there a difference between dress watches and sports watches?

Thank you!
