What To Do During The Lockdown

Hey Guys:

I had a lot of free time these past few months, and looking at watches only goes so far...

So I decided to make a reproduction Tiffany lamp! I had a base and some glass laying around in my workshop, and so I gave it a whirl...

The pattern is the 20" Water Lilly and it has about 420 pieces total. First job: cut out the glass to match the patterns and put them on a lighted table to make sure they look right...

Second job was to transfer the cut pieces to a waxed mold and adjust the fit of each piece.

Next up was the boring job of wrapping each piece with copper foil and replacing it on the mold.

Next up was the soldering of the outside foiled areas and removing the lamp from the waxed mold. Then, the inside got soldered and the lead matrix was complete.

A couple of hours of smoothing out the seams and then the whole thing gets thoroughly cleaned and a patina is applied to the leaded seams...

Voila! A nice lamp for the living room and time to go back to watch collecting!

Life is good!

I've been working my butt off during the lockdown and looks like you got more done than me.

Nice work!

I haven’t even been locked down during Covid and seems like I’ve been busier during it, yet I still don’t feel as accomplished as you must feel making that shade!! Incredibly impressive!!

I did stained glass for about four years during college. I know how difficult it is to cut some of those shapes and get the shade structure just right. Great job! Beautiful lamp shade!

Hey Guys!

Thanks for all the nice comments; I'm a firm believer that everyone has a hidden talent somewhere! All it takes is a little effort and a lot of patience, and you can do almost anything in life!

The hardest part is figuring out what it is that you want to do most...

Give it your best shot and you might just amaze yourself!

Be safe,

Now THAT is impressive!

Beautiful lamp. I’ve been shredding old documents during the stay at home. Very exciting, HA! I’m getting desperate, getting tired of buy stuff I don’t need. Not spending a lot of money, just a few bucks here and there. Disposable face masks, are probably the most useful purchase I’ve made.
