Nocturnal wildlife....'Batman', in the flesh!

Sitting quietly, sipping a nice cold Reisling whilst reading on the terrace this evening, just after dusk. When something flew, silently, very close to my head. I felt the 'downdraught' and thought it was a late Blackbird on its way to roost.

I just happened to look up at the sky to admire Saturn, shining brightly in the west, and then saw a couple of large Bats fluttering around over the lawn.

I had a camera with me, and popped off a couple of shots with a little bit of flash,
not really expecting to capture much, but was pleasantly surprised at the result.

No idea which species it is.

An other members seeing 'Caped Crusaders' in their locale?

Thanks fellas, you're very kind,
I think it's a fairly average shot at best, but they are difficult little critters to capture. I will try again, next time, without the Reisling tho'.

Great shot......yours?
D'you get many Flying Foxes in your back yard?

I've seen Fruit Bats, en masse. Big, noisy buggers.

That is a great piece of luck. The flash makes it look skeletal. A real cool effect.

Wow ! Amazing to get a photo.

We have a bat roost on the corner of the back building. Each night at dusk they came screaming out.

Really amazing to see.

FFs are resident in the state, and a fairly common sight in our local area in the evenings. More so in summer as they are somewhat migratory.

Must be a wonderful sight.
They are such fascinating creatures. Sadly. they, like a lot
of species, are under threat.

Great shot of yours!

Quite a few bats in my area at night, I live at the edge of a small town, but are surrounded by farms and woodland.

Nocturnal wildlife....'Batman', in the flesh!

I ran into a little guy sleeping while visually inspecting some storm drain pipe a few weeks ago.
