Rolex or Grand Seiko. Part 2

My first GS arrived while I was in the sandpit, absolutely exquisite.
Feels very light, obviously made for smaller wrists (I'm on second last hole on the strap)

really difficult to get in a picture just how "Lively" the watch is, think this one conveys a little of the "life" in the watch.
The 16613 that usually lives there has much more "Presence" on the wrist that the SBGM031 but, both put such a smile on my face for very different reasons.
Rolex is superb.
GS is superb.
The amount of flying I do, absolute accuracy is a moot point as I tend to be re-setting local time so often (tho the local time setting on the 031 is seriously well thought out, so I might see cumulative errors on that)

You'll never impress a non WIS with a GS as it is "just" a Seiko.
But you'll never annoy people wearing a GS as it is "just" a Seiko.

I don't think you can choose one over the other as they are so different.

Now, I'm back off to stare at my watch (and then still be none the wiser what time it is)

How silly is it that we can / do stare at our timepieces without registering what time it is
wrist art / fine engineering / source of happy smiles.

Had the gs since the picture above was taken, all 10 days (and 3 watchstraps, did not get along with the oem strap/deployant)
Set it precisely to timeanddate.com
Checked it today, it is -1/2 second (total) over 10 days.......

GSs are awesome.. pay attention to the way the hands/markers reflect light.
My 'blingy' RO 15450 cant compete in this area.

Hi, this is my second GS and first spring drive. It's on a curved-end leather strap(seiko z20) which to me looks better than on a bracelet.

Complete and total misinformation. Every single LFA that's built is sold. First year were all sold out before they even existed even with Toyotas weird ownership rules.
The LFA isn't meant to compete with an Aventador, it's an exercise in engineering. A GTR will rip an Aventador around a track but that's not the point.....I would still by the Aventador if I could.

The NSX looked amazing for it's time and a style still loved by car lovers 'til this day, and if it was a total flop I don't understand how every single one available on the secondary market has an extremely inflated price. Unless you just don't like japanese cars, your assessment is way way off, but it is your opinion and you're entitled to it.

The suit analogy is bs.....good riddance.

Quartz and mechanical movements are not comparable in regards to accuracy. A G-Shock will have better accuracy then a Submariner without having to specifically buy a GS quartz.

That is nice. Can be had for <$2k brand new so it's quite affordable. Would much rather have a GS quartz over a TAG quartz at this price point.

Well, if someone already has a bunch of other watches, why not add a GS? As a one and only watch, that's hard to say.

True. For me, as a one and only watch, the answer would be no. I think someone would need to 'graduate' thru some other brands before going to a GS. ie I don't think anyone buys a PP/VC/AP as their first foray into a 'nice' watch (unless you had squillions of dollars lol).

Hi guys - this is an interesting thread. I started getting into watches around 4 years ago. Prior to that I wore a cheap Seiko. My first foray into "high end" watches was to try on a Rolex SDDS. I got close but have yet to buy my first Rolex. Over the years, I've added a few watches to my collection. Even got very close to picking up a Patek Nautilus. But strangely, my tastes in watches have changed. For example, whilst I own Panerais, I now have a preference for smaller more traditional sized/weighted watches. Honestly - would I buy a GS for the same price as a Rolex? Honestly, I probably would. The reason is that I look at watches a lot more differently now than what I did when I first started. So - anyway, TODAY - I put my order in for a Grand Seiko. Can't wait to see it... and will share some pics once its in my hands.

Many thanks. I too have spent many hours contemplating about the proverbial question "is a Grand Seiko worth the money". For me at least, I am quite comfortable with the image and perhaps lack of brand cache of GS. And yes, in some ways, its kind of cool to be going against the grain. Every taxi driver here seems to have a Rolex, and every Tom Dick and Harry a Panerai.... cheers...

Thanks Clive. I've bought a few watches before, but there is something about the GS that has me in anticipation like no other. I think its because many have talked highly of the workmanship and how you've got to see it in the metal. So I'm waiting anxiously to see it...
