When seconds hand is at 55, the 9 “preloads” by moving down slightly. Then at 60 the jump happens. You can see it in Russels video. In the newer movements there is no preload, the minutes jump without the initial slight movement.
What’s the cut-off year when pre loading no longer a problem?

Congrats on that piece. Am also salivating for one.

I believe 2018. Maybe later. Not too sure. Be aware Lange didn't update the reference # which is annoying

The earliest I have seen with the updated movement is mid 2017, so if you look for one, a safe bet is 2018. You can see the differences visually as well on the back though.
Amazing watch! Unique construction, a big big perhaps, but exceptionel still.

Comparison shots of the movements if you are looking to get a piece that is updated.

First movement photo is my Phantom which is from 2011, second photo is the new updated movement. Love the way the German silver ages.

Wow, a really beauty. Congrats!!!
I saw this at the AD from afar (purposely walking wide of the showcase) knowing bad things could happen if I put it on my wrist.

Well that is one easily spotted difference, as is the plate cutaway bottom right.

Considering this one. Seller does not know year. I guess from the pic, it’s the older model.

Sublime, it is a true beauty to behold, felt amazing when I tried it on and the movement was art. Lange is really coming up and doing all the right things. Congratulations!

Yes it is. Personally it doesn't worry me but only you know how you feel.

It will preload the minutes with 5 seconds to go for a minute change and preloads the 10’s of minutes every 10 minutes for a change. The hours do not preload. I never even notice it when wearing the piece but clearly in time lapse it is easy to see. What I find astounding is how synchronised the rotation is, all 3 discs change in 0.05 seconds. This is 3 consecutive shots in a burst of 10 over a total of 0.5 seconds. Time span here is about 0.1 seconds. Note the movement of the second hand.
