Suvs from 60-80k

Been driving some form of Mercedes for the last 10 years. I’m gonna need something for driving 10 hours a few times a year, family Mover, possibly 3 rows.

Has to be good in a snow, anyone have experience with

2021 Tahoe, z71, Hugh country
Yukon Denali

Any other contenders beyond gle and smaller LR offerings anyone would like to reccomend

A few times a year?

Rent a Suburban or Expedition.

Don’t buy the car needed for 5% of the need. Buy one for the 95%

I’d go XC60 or Explorer tbh.

Come to think of it, everyone’s got SUVs now. And they’re all good.

Wait up! $60-$80k?

Cayenne or Q7 or Aviator or GX or Sequoia or XC90 or X5 or Escalade or X7 or Tahoe PPV or restomod International Harvester or Canyonero or ...

You’ve got a lot of options. Have fun shopping!

That wouldn’t be the main use, more family truck, but I will have to consider long distance driving probably a dozen times a year now that I think of it.

Explorer was a consideration, I’ll check the Volvo

There’s really a lot to consider. I really don’t think anyone makes a bad premium SUV these days.

Yep and that’s the toughest part, they all seem good

Lexus LX or GX. Our GX has been good to us. Has AWD full time and 4WD via center torsen diff lock with low and high gears.

I think the Tahoe is the only one with mechanic diff out of everything so far. I hated not having a mech rear diff in my Tacoma. We do a bit of on the beach stuff too here and there

How’s that 3rd row in the gx? GM stuff just for bigger, never owned a GM

There's plenty of YouTube on the GX kicking it on sand dunes. Third row is probably best for children and 5'6" and under adults. For easy access 3rd row we use the AWD sienna minivan. Its 0-60-0 on snow is better than the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I’ll second the Canyonero.

I’m always skeptical about the first year of a restyled vehicle, like the new Tahoe’s/Yukon’s. Enjoy the hunt.

A great place to start is YouTube. I wouldn't use it as my only source but it will give you some comparisons an idea of what is out there and some of the differences.

Check out the Ford Expedition and its luxury cousin, the Lincoln Navigator. If you’re doing long hauls with anyone over 7, you’re going to want a decent third row. GM threesome is sorely lagging behind Ford/Lincoln in that regard (at least in the last iteration).

If budget is not a priority get the gls. I swear to god though I love my wife’s palisade limited lol It’s a really great family hauler.

I wish I could recommend the LX but honestly it’s not the greatest for hauling kids. I say if you go GM go straight to the suburban.

My MIL just purchased a 2020 LX570. It is a beautiful vehicle with stunning tech, but not an ideal people mover. The third row is pretty small, it does not fold flat, and there is almost no useable space behind it when it is up.

Really like my xc90. Great car and well worth a look if space, comfort & safety are high up your list

You can get some extremely competitive lease offers on a well-equipped BMW X7 in the price neighborhood you're looking at. That model is by far the most heavily discounted among the BMW SUVs if you know where to look. Also approaching prime time for even riper deals now that '21s will begin hitting lots shortly.

Something to consider if you have any interest in the model.

Buy vs. lease?
New vs. used?

If you like Mercedes, perhaps you should look at an off lease GLS? Otherwise as pointed out there are a lot of choices

Buying, we also have a gla, so I’m trying to change things up a bit. Gx look nice, a little dated on the inside tech wise it seems like. Navigator was thinking too. Gls would be nice

I own a 20 Yukon Denali and love it. It was great in the snow as well. Nobody can tell you what the 21 is like yet though as it has yet to see it's first winter.

GLS or X7 with their 6 cylinder engines is right up in the 80K alley. Something else to look at will be the Lincoln Aviator.

The Navigator has seats that adjust over 20 different ways. But they appear a bit funky and based on a comment of feeling them flap when driving on the highway I would want to check that out before going in that direction. I wouldn't want my seats to flap while driving.

For almost 100k that’s totally unacceptable

Keep in mind I'm only going off of a You Tube review and never tried it myself. Anyway given the way their seats are designed I can see where it might be something that might happen. It's the padding or extra side cushions they use.

60-80K, the GM products or the Kia/Hyundai variant are the sizes you’re looking for. The German variants and the LX/Landcruiser are above that price point as are the GLS. Unless you are not opposed to Pre-Owned.

I would also opt for something with a V8 at that size. The turbo 6 are sufficient for an X3/GLC and maybe an X5 but any larger and it’ll be a slug that needs to be rung out getting to traffic flow.

These days of you want a luxury 3 row you are going to spend $100k.

I am going through the same process at the moment. The best retention of value will be the Lexus/Toyota.
