Over polished bezel on a scrambled 116233... what to do
So I purchased a full set datejust from a reputable dealer and don’t get me wrong, the watch is in excellent shape nearly mint.. except the bezel. Honestly looks like it’s polished way beyond its years. I know the more you polish it, the rounder the peaks will be. How can I restore it close to factory to bring back those sharp peaks. Well, I purchased a brand new new oem bezel from a watchmaker that swapped the bezel for a diamond set one and they left it with the jeweler. So it’s swapped and all good BUT i still have the older one.
Does anyone in the states re flute bezels or diamond cut it to look close to factory? I would be nice to see a spare bezel.. one that’s mint besides the removed gold from the process. If anyone knows of someone stateside that can perform this service, that would be incredible. I doubt my dealer swapped bezels on me, it was probably just over polished from an inexperienced polisher. Either way, I would like to do something with this old bezel that’s still factory. I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a perfectionist so to you guys, the over polish may not seem that but to me it does. Attached a photo of my old over polished bezel. Input!? |

Some places can re-cut those bezels, the result is usually very good.

Find a good one on ebay - they generally sell near spot price.

I'm not sure but maybe LAWW might be able to do it. Their refinishing skills are out of this world so it wouldn't surprise me if they could.

Not sure why you wouldn't just spring for a new bezel. It would be really sharp (don't cut your fingers! )
The watch isn't a highly collectible vintage piece that would have its value destroyed by a new bezel, and obviously, you want it crisp. The cost of Beau doing this at LAWW would be almost the cost of replacing your old one - especially if you offer to do it as a trade in, of sorts. In fact, LAWW may do exactly that! I really don't know, but I'd open your eyes to the possibility, and ask. It's just that replacing a crystal, or a bezel, isn't the same blasphemy of creating a Frankenwatch, as replacing a dial! Just making that clear. Most of all, enjoy your new baby! She's a beaut!
