Gold hands

I never quite understood the appeal of gold hands in a steel cased Panerai until yesterday. WOW! In the right light, they REALLY GLOW / STAND OUT against the dial. It even seems to enhance legibility (although that's not much of an issue on a big faced Panerai watch). Mesmerizing. Anyone have pics of what I'm talking about?

Not bad Andy but I was surprised by just how intensely the hands shined. So much so that the rest of the watch seemed to disappear. I'm thinking pics may not do the phenomena justice. Now I sound like Mik!

The gold hands goes back to the history of Panerai where the Gold around the radium was used on the early vintage watches. Radium was radioactive and was replaced but the gold shined during the day and the Radium shined throughout the night and under water.

You think that is hard to get a pic to the great gold hands, try getting a picture that captures the subtle brown dial of the 232!!!! Spectacular in person....so hard to capture in pics.

I'm just glad you are starting to "get it"!

the gold hands really work in low light conditions, as you turn the watch towards you on the wrist the light catches the gold hands and they really stand out. they clearly noticed this in the early days when they went away from the very early blued steel, it's a really simple thing that works.

I love the gold hands too. If I ever buy another Panerai, it's going to be a must have feature.

WOW< beautiful examples guys! Ever since I saw my first Panerai with gold hands in person all of the models with the simple black hands look too plain now.

I suppose this is the reason why models with gold hands are much sought after.
