16800 pumpkin

Hello dear Rolex friends:)

Is this 16800 from 1988 (my watch) what you would Call natural pumpkin patina dial and hands? (See pictures)

And how does that kind og patina happens?

Many thanks for all your feedback and knowledge🙏

Best regards
Dan

A real beauty!
ENJOY!
That is exactly what happened to my first Sub(circa 1977) - the Tritium on the dial simple evaporated and created the patina color that you see today.
Under no circumstances should you refinish the dial or attempt to re-lume it -the loss of value (and looks) will be detrimental…..

Looks like it’s too late for that based on the lume shot. There’s no way that the original aged tritium would glow like that? It’s already been re-lumed, evidently.

It does not glow - only turn white with the UV - the lume is totally dead

I have a 16610 that is about two years newer than that and the dial, hands, and pip are all a nice creamy color with no orange tone at all.
