The start of an addiction?

Hello all,

Just picked up my first Rolex at the age of 40 last week. I've owned other luxury watches such as Cartier and Omega before but there's something about a Rolex that makes me want another!

I've already got my eye on a Datejust ii slate green.

How long was it before you bought your second Rolex? Was it the start of an addiction?

Congrats on the DSSD - it's engineering perfection!

My first was an Sea Dweller in 2008 and I bought my next Rolex, a Daytona in 2010....since then I've bought/flipped about 3-4 watches per year and now have 4 Rolexes and I AP.

It's a slippery slope my friend - welcome to the disease!!

Congrats with your purchase. Yes, I agree with you that when you buy your first Rolex and setup account in TRF you get addicted. The same happened to me :) I bought DJII, however, now I also want YM with Blue dial and Daytona - C. Only my wife and the fact that Daytona - C it is hard to obtain for MSRP stands in my way :)

Congrats on a great piece!! My first Rolex was bought in 97. Had that until 2015, along with a couple other lesser brands. Joined TRF over a year ago...my collection of Rolex watches since then , has been anywhere from 3-8 at one time!! Settling the collection now to 4-5. If you stay here on TRF....good luck staying with just one or two..lol! It's a great/dangerous/fun..... hobby/addiction!! Welcome:)

If you think that is an addiction, you must NEVER buy a precious metal Rolex.

I've never owned more than one Rolex at a time, but I am hooked nonetheless and was as soon as I got my first.

Ha. We are the same but in reverse...
I just got my first (DJ41) and 3 days later... I have the AD holding an incoming Hulk for me.

I don't even have a rolex yet and I think I've become addicted. Can't wait to figure out what my first purchase will be. I already know I want a daytona and a sub in my collection. Probably will be a collection of two. But somehow the simplicity of the explorer is growing on me!

Bought my first from an AD, then 2 months later my second online. Very slippery slope I've been sliding down ever since...

We're on a similar path...

I bought a Sub at 30 and then a DJ at 31.

Currently 32 and I can't see me making it 3/3 as wifey has put the brakes on.

Congrats on the DSSD...great watch.

As others have said, once you get the second, it is indeed a VERY slippery slope. My advice (which I didn't follow) is take your time and enjoy each purchase to the fullest.

Congrats! In case you didn't know, the DJ II slate green is discontinued so if you want it, buying sooner rather than later would make things easier.

Great watch to start the collection. The deep-sea is a huge piece and I love mine. Maybe you should consider the baby brother 116600. congrads

Mine started differently. I bought my first Rolex at 24 (in the Army in the early 70's) and wore it for 20 years. TT DJ. It was bullet proof (serviced twice in 20 years) and it spoiled me.

I liked the looks of Cartier and sold my 1601 and bought a Pasha, and then a Roadster, and both needed servicing every 2 years. Loved the looks of Cartier, but returned to the reliability of Rolex and never looked back.

For many Rolex equates to status but to me it equates to reliability and durability. I love that I don't have to baby them.
