Do you have a "beater watch"?
After a night out with the boys last weekend, somehow I lost the lume dot at the 0" marker on the bezel of my Sub (no idea how!), so I'm considering buying a "weekend warrior" watch and saving the Sub for wear during the week. I'm also going on a cruise to the Bahamas in a couple weeks and would feel much more comfortable wearing a "beater watch" than my Rolex.
I'm looking at some of the Victorinox/Swiss Army models between $300-$500. So TRF'ers, do you have a "beater watch" that you wear when you're not wearing your Rolex(es)? If so: 1) What kind of beater watch do you have? Post pics if possible. 2) Under what circumstances do you switch out your Rolex for your beater? 3) What is your beater's approximate MSRP? I'm curious to know whether TRF'ers wear $2,000 Omegas or $65 Casios as their beaters.

I wear my Seiko Monster when I'm not wearing a Rolex :-)
The only time I wear the Rolex these days is certain clients and visiting friends and relatives. Still love my DJ Purchased the monster back in January, cost a bundle at $175AUD , absolute bargain

I wear an AirKing I bought for $1500 on workdays.
The small size makes it unobtrusive, yet I find the little sucker very tough! Makes me appreciate the 40mm size on weekends

Yes, a Seiko Kinetic, a few Timex Ironman watches and a few others . . . sometimes I just want to wear something different, sometimes when I don't want to risk beating up a nicer watch.

I have a Seiko Divers that is my beater/work watch, however I am considering a Lum Tec (Tungsten) watch. They are around $800. I need a durable watch that can literally take a beating. (LOL...Gonzalez 415 anyone??)

I have 4 G-Shocks that qualify as beaters I guess, but in all honesty most of the time I'm wearing a Rolex or an Omega, and the G's aren't getting much wrist time these days.

go for any of those Victrinoxes...you ownt be disappointed...but my preference would be either the infantry mechanical chrono in that greyish shade of metal or the quartz dive master 500, which would be a proper 'beater', pick and wear and forget kind of watch

I bought the Casio at a camping outfitter 10 years ago for $75. I don't go hiking without it. The Tag is a gift from my dad, had it for maybe 12 years. When I traveled to the Middle East earlier this year I wore this one (while the Rollie went to RSC for a complete overhaul). |

yes, i do have a few non-Rolex watches, they range from Casio to Rotary to Tag to Prosche Design to Rado to Omega etc.
i dont call them beater watches. Each watch from my watch box serves a "different" purpose. I enjoy wearing my £90 Rotary skeleton manual wind as much as my Sub LV....... (call me weird...) |

If I have to "beat" I just take the watch off until the beating is done.
No matter how careful you are, some damage is inevitable. But this rule can save you a considerable amount of wear and tear. |

I try to be careful with all my watches but when i'm travelling, doing repairs or in any situation that has a high chance of scratching or dinging my Rolex, i'll put on my grab-N-go piece which is a Seiko Sawtooth.

I have a couple of $20 Timex watches that I wear when traveling to third world countries or for working on the car or repair jobs around the house. I also have a $40 CORVETTE logo chrono that I wear to club meetings or car shows.
I also have an earlier Seiko titanium dress watch with a matching bracelet, that just sits in my watch box. My two daily watches are my Rolex GMT IIC or my Breitling Old Navitimer.

Here are my "beaters"
Seiko SMY089 (doesn't need to worry about battery, just wear it on my runs from time to time and it will be charged up nicely, WR200M diver, and I replaced the clasp with the one from SBDX001 MM auto 300m for the on-the-fly bracelet adjustment) Casio G-Shock GW6900 (solar atomic so no worries about battery and using the EL like crazy, always accurate, relative cheap to replace) |

Back when I was still an LEO, I wore a G-Shock as my beater. Nowadays, the Explorer II fills the bill, though I may get a Timex Expedition or fix-up the G-Shock for extreme yard duty!

I've got a Timex Rugged Field Explorer on a Zulu I don't mind beating a little. But I agree the cheaper the watch in price the more likely I am to beat it around a little.

This has been my normal beater but I just got a monster and that would qualify as the new beater.
