Case and Bracelet Steel makeup
I know this has been asked before, but seems there is some dispute. I know Padi will post what someone at Rolex said, but is there anything official by Rolex to confirm.
From the Ads it says the case is made of 904 steel? What parts of a Rolex are 904 SS and what parts are 316 SS?? |

Always thought that the metal that touches the skin have less nickel (non vintages). Caseback and clasp could be 316L while the rest are 904L.

Funny that you should ask, Chad!
Because I had actually subscribed to the "Steel Thread", so here it is. I still miss the answers, so here the thread is: Rolex steel. Click! We might get some "NEW" infos????

Again, though still conflicting reports. Also some say Rolex SS discharges more nickel thus causing irritation to some people, and then other say 904L does not discharge even though higher content of Nickel. Guess need to do some research. Be good to see something official from Rolex about what is 904 and what is not. Seems much we hear is hearsay.
From the Rolex Ads one would be lec to believe it is all made out of 904L. |

Here is a good link. MSDS. Notice 904L is not listed with Stainless Steels, but with Nickel Allow Steels. Also further down notice problems Nickel can cause.
