This may make some folks here mad but......

Let me tell you all about my experience with the Blue Sub TT.

Being in the marine industry I wanted a Rolex Sub. The blue sub was just the best diver's watch I had ever seen. Well I finally bought one. I went to the Virginia Beach boat show a few days after I bought it and I must have spotted 10 or more just like mine!! I thought, well that must just be a fluke. The following year I am at the Annapolis boat show and you would have thought they were handing out blue Subs at the gate!!! So, never being a person to follow fads, I got rid of mine. Now I am sure some folks will say all that matters if I like the thing, but I dont want to have a fad Rolex and thats how I feel.

And the rest of the story is...what?

Let me guess. You got yourself a Sea-Dweller, and now you're a man among men at the boat shows!

Right?

I knew there was a happy ending to this story.

P.S. It's only a fad if you think it's a fad. Otherwise, it's just a watch.

Your reasoning is weird.

Its popular because its an excellent watch. Not because its a fad. Fads come and go. The TT sub has always been popular and always will.

I see your reasoning on giving up the TT Blue Sub. In certain circles, you'll see a lot of people wearing one of these, however, I'd believe one would be more apt to see more Sub Dates than TT Blue Subs in the "General" population.

The TT Blue Sub is kind of like the Porsche Boxster. It seems like to me that for every Porsche Carrierra I see, there go 3 Boxsters.

My next question is, is the Boxter Porsches' least expensive model?????

Once a year at a boat show does not a fad make. The Sub is very popular for a reason but the SD is a show stopper!

I think a couple of you guys misunderstood. I said BLUE sub, not sub in general. Also, when I spoke about boat shows, I was referring to people in the biz. Since that is a large group of folks of the same business in one place I think it was a pretty acurate assumption.

The Blue TT Subs ........

do appear to be everywhere (here in South Florida too) but I think it's because they are very noticeable or identifiable. OK for some but not for me.

Hey, no worries. You weren't happy with your watch and you got yourself another one--even if it wasn't an SD.

And I could see how if everyone around me was wearing the same watch it would seem a little weird.

Anyway, life is too short to pound people about their watch choices no matter what their reason. (Ow, I stubbed my toe. That's it, I'm flipping this Sub!)

I can see where hes coming from.

I am from Puerto Rico,
and it seems like everyone here owns a rolex, and that rolex is the premium recognized watch brand. obviously, there are some very nice stores that sell other lines, but it seems like everywhere i turn there is someone wearing one. just yesterday in the post office, a guy had a twotone yachtmaster midsize, the guy 2 people behind him had a datejust, and then there was me with my gmt. i love my gmt, but its funny when i go out, the social scene in puerto rico can be very much like southbeach and miami, and you see a bunch of kids my age, and it seems like they all have a stainless sub, a cartier roadster, a cartier tank, and a few breitlings here and there, maybe one panerai or ulysse nardin

I hear this type of argument from time to time in my other hobby, cars. When I had my Ferrari, since the Ferrari dealership was about 2 miles from my home all I saw was Ferraris. Now I have a Vette. One way to look at it is that EVERYONE has a Vette, why can't I find something exclusive?

What the Vette folks do is just WAVE to each other, and instead of feeling like a commoner with the same car as dozens of others, we start to feel like a social club, all understanding how much we love our cars and how smug we feel to be driving something that can run rings around most of my once and former exotics in a reasonably priced (for exotics) vehicle.

You could just think of yourself as sharing the knowledge that people smart enought to buy a watch capable of diving, or being worn out to dinner, or anywhere share. You're part of a club.

If you don't like having a "fad" watch, you probably need to buy a different brand, perhaps the very, very fine Jaeger LeCoultre. Rolex sells something like 800,000 watches a year, and who knows how many counterfeits are out there on top of that, before you get to the Invicta copies, and so on. There are more watches out there that are Rolexes, or look like Rolexes than just about any other brand.

How about a Nautische Instrumente Glashutte Nautic Timer?
Or a Sinn U1, Damasko 66, a SAR, or even a Blanpain 50 Fathoms? You won't see yourself walking down the street.
But then you also won't have a watch you love, from a manufacturer who builds watches you can wear for decades.

Up to you.

Icon2 I see

I see your point. You bought the watch and wound up being in a crowd. I can see how you want to be set apart from the "rest".

Rolex is massed produced..........and the models are not accumulating in a wharehouse someplace.......they are landing on people's wrists.

In a social circle where you can afford to own a yacht......they most certainly can afford a Rolex or ten.

Therefore the best advice given would be to buy something exclusive and not something "inclusive" like the Rolex.

Think about it, if the production numbers are correct, close to 800,000 individuals will have the potential to join the rolex ranks.......this year alone!

If you ever trade in that DD, look for a Ulysse Nardin Blue Surf Limited Edition. It's a thing of beauty in a red gold case, a deep blue dial and bezel, and they only made 500 of them. The case, dial, and color are different enough that it wouldn't be mistaken for a blue sub. And of course, the Patek Philippe Nautilus will always be a standout in the yachting crowd. It has timeless styling, impeccable credentials, virtually perfect workmanship and a fair amount of exclusivity.

Well, if you:

1) Want THE "Marine" Rolex of ALL marine Rolex watches, and
2) Want a Rolex that you don't see on everyone's wrist

then go for:

THE ROLEX SEA-DWELLER 4000 !!

I don't follow your train of thought. At one stage you thought the Blue Sub was the most beautiful divers watch, and what happened, you saw other people with it and so you changed your mind? Sounds like you want a Rolex cause you want to be noticed, you want the "wow" factor. If you purchase things for these reasons, rather than because you actually like the product, you will be chasing your tail. Sounds like you are a brand-hag! (Aussie term)

Hey Yachtsales....you gotta go with what you love.
If the Blue Sub wasnt for you, then you made the right move.
I see from your new tagline that you have a couple of real nice Panerais...........weren't they originally Italian Navy watches ? You could have just worn one of those and really stood out from the crowd

The only reason for you to get a SD is if you think your yacht is gonna sink to 4000ft !
If you still need another Rolex, the black TT Sub (as worn by Alcan on his craft) looks the coolest of the cool

The TT Blue Sub is kind of like the Porsche Boxster. It seems like to me that for every Porsche Carrierra I see, there go 3 Boxsters.

My next question is, is the Boxter Porsches' least expensive model?????[/QUOTE]

You can get a base Caymen with no options for a bit less, so that would be the least expensive model. Plus, for the 2008 model, Porsche has cut production of the boxter so they are going to be much rarer on the ground, and will bring in a premium over sticker price.

Dont misunderstand, I think the Blue TT Sub, is in the top 3 of best looking Rolexes made! Also, I dont mind seeing someone else with a Rolex like mine, but when you see 10-15 at one gathering, its a little much for me!

Hey, your watch, your likes and dislikes, your feelings. I would go with a yachtmaster and be done with it.

Icon3 Yachtmaster = CREEPY

YUCK!!!

But it will sell, because it's a "ROLEX". Virtually any other brand with a design like that would have fired the C.E.O.

Why buy a watch that CHUCKY the killer doll would look good in?
