Snowmobile Drivebelt Replacement?
Got my sled running today after an hour of fighting with it. Finally got it running long enough to prime itself. So I let it idle, get nice and warm since it hasnt run for a long time, then procede to pull it out of its parking spot. I get about 40 feet away, and I hear bang bang bang from the clutch, then the sled stops, in about 4 feet of snow at that. So I pop off the hood and the clutch cover, and theres a large chunk of the v-belt missing, but the belt is not broken, and everytime that section comes around to the clutch, it loses grip and pops out resulting in the banging noise.
Anyways, it needs a new belt, and I've never worked on a sled in my life. It looks like a pain in the *** to change, but maybe I'm wrong. Can anyone offer any insight on changing it? The sled is a 1994 Arctic Cat Puma 340 twin, not the deluxe one. Thanks guys. |

Original belt I'm guessing? Do a search for a snowmobile forum, the front of the pulley probably has a bolt in the center that allows you to remove the pulley front and slide the belt off.
You'll probably have to adjust the linkage when you install the new one, but it may have an automatic adjuster. Good luck, Paul |
