Greetings from Shanghai
Hello All,
I'm a New Yorker living in Shanghai. This forum is a wonderful resource to learn about all things Rolex and I find the amount of knowledge, passion, and civility here to be truly incredible! About myself, to tell the truth, until recently, I've never understood the appeal for Rolex. Always seemed kind of old, flashy, and overpriced to me. However, the wife and I were vacationing in Lucerne last year where we happened to stumble across a small shop called Bucherer and left with a few souvenirs including several Rolex spoons and a Lady Datejust. Upon returning home, I started reading about Rolex out of curiosity, half expecting to learn that I had just helped an evil conglomerate fund a civil war somewhere on the continent of Africa. (I'm looking at you, LVMH/de Beers) What did I learn? To start, the obvious fact that they pioneered a lot of innovations many years ago. However, what caught my attention was that Rolex is independently owned and run. They are also entirely vertically integrated, making their own cases, movements, crystals, etc. In fact, it seems the only thing they don't have in-house are direct retail channels, which is surprising considering the amount of direct advertising they do. And most astonishingly, a portion of their profits go to charity! So, I think I will be buying less watches from the likes of Swatch, Richemont, and LVMH and more at Rolex. I also look forward to learning more from you in this forum and hope I can contribute some day. Cheers! Bruce P.S. And I was inspired to get a DJ for myself too. For charity, of course. :) |

Thanks for the welcomes! I did have a question of sorts. Is the new material Rolesium simply the presence of steel and platinum on the same watch? It's not an actual alloy of steel and platinum is it? Everose is an actual rose gold alloy, though, right?

Quote:
Rolesium is a trademarked term of Rolex's to describe the combination of stainless steel and platinum, Everose is too - and yes, it is their proprietary alloyed rose gold.
