Supposedly in collecting (of any item), condition is everything...

Apparently this isn't true in watches...People look for the faded, worn out pieces and consider them desirable....

Just people looking for something to spend their money on I guess.....

So why buy a 50yr old, worn and beaten up vintage watch when you can pop into the your AD and buy a sparkly new one at a third of the price???

You can also go and buy a new service insert for a couple of hundred pounds and have extra shiny stuff.

A fuchsia insert costs what it costs. There are beaten up old bezels that cost far far more. The bigger question is why put it on an incorrect watch. But that’s up to the OP...

Are you posting here on the vintage forum just to declare that vintage collectors, and their watches, are foolish? That's fine if you feel that way, but why bother posting that? You're not going to change anyone's mind.

When you get a chance, can you list a few dealers where we can "pop into" and buy a new GMT II. Sorry, but I've been "popping" in-and-out of Rolex shops for two years now and have yet to find one.

I think you misunderstand the intention of my post.....

Anyway. Fair point all the same

I’m not sure why you are on a Vintage Watch Forum. To me, this is about as good as it gets (except dial). I’d much rather have this than any new watch.

To me, the condition is perfect.

Vintage collections are NOT foolish by any means...I know of a few vintage pieces I would love to own....

But does a faded "ghost" insert appeal to me? No...
What about a red insert, faded to hot pink? No...
Does a "tropical" dial appeal to me? No...

I've observed that condition seems to take a back seat to originality when it comes to vintage watches....

You have mentioned your service dial in a previous post and again in this post you set it apart from the rest of the watch; why did you not buy a correct dial as opposed to the Fuschia insert? I'm sure many members reading your words will be thinking the same. Nice watch though, no matter what the combination.

pretty simple answer - budget. I had a budget and wanted a certain watch, insert and bracelet. took me awhile to find all three. had I found a watch with the correct dial, it would have blown my budget (before being able to get the insert and bracelet). One day I'll get the correct dial, but am in no rush.

sorry for the group if im posting pics too many pics. Just loving it.

Wow, stunning! The dial looks absolutely flawless and 100% perfect, right? The insert is also extremely nice! That would be my favorite ;-) You have a UV photo?
